Song Lyric Sunday – Rose Gold by Pentatonix

I immediately had a song in mind when I thought of the theme, but it was sort of outside the realm of the theme in a way and the lyrics were so sad.  I just couldn’t bring myself to post it for what will be the day after my wedding.  So, I went in search of a song.

I looked up the theme and there were a lot of songs I’d never heard of, and once again I couldn’t bring myself to post a song that I wasn’t really feeling.  Music is emotion for me and I wanted the song today to emote my joy.  I was so excited when I remembered this song by Pentatonix!  When I first heard it, I didn’t love it, but the more I hear it, the more it has grown on me.

As you know, I love these guys and the lyrics of this song are perfect.  I do hope you enjoy!

Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Started like a movie scene
Once upon a London street
Tried to play it like James Dean
Cigarettes in my sleeve

Like a myth, the story of our lives
Couldn’t fit in only black and white
If it’s true that legends never die
Me and you could stand the test of time

We could be timeless, we could be classic
We could be stars, we could be rose gold, rose gold
We could be diamonds, we could be an anthem
We could be stars, we could be rose gold, rose gold

Driving up the coast somewhere
Salt water in your hair
Too many people on this road
We could take the canyon home

Like a myth, the story of our lives
Couldn’t fit in only black and white
If it’s true that legends never die
Me and you could stand the test of time

We could be timeless, we could be classic
We could be stars, we could be rose gold, rose gold
We could be diamonds, we could be an anthem
We could be stars, we could be rose gold, rose gold

We could be timeless, we could be classic
We could be stars, we could be rose gold, rose gold
We could be diamonds
Yeah, we could be rose gold, rose gold

Imagine: Pentatonix

I suppose I should have thought to post this myself after listening to Karuna’s original post this morning, but I’m choosing to share her post instead. Such a great message for today and always, and I simply love this version and the message they share.

Living, Learning and Letting Go

When Helen from Song Lyric Sunday read my post Imagine today, she told me of another group that sang the song. I just listed to their version. I was so touched by their rendition and the message that went with it that I decided to share it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Song Lyric Sunday – Light in the Hallway by Pentatonix

Ever since Adelle introduced me to Pentatonix, I have been in love with them.  I started singing pretty young and was in a choir all through high school.  This group makes me think of those times and how much I loved harmonizing with a group of singers.

I honestly didn’t know which song I was going to pick when I posted the theme yesterday, but as I was laying in bed this morning, I thought of this song and I realized it said almost exactly what I said in my post yesterday.

I don’t know about you, but there are still times that I just want to call my Mom and have her chase the monsters away.  I hope my kids always know that I am here for them, no matter how old they are.

I do hope you enjoy this song as much as I do.

Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Close your eyes, lay your head down
Now it’s time to sleep
May you find great adventure
As you lie and dream
If you’re scared of the darkness
I will calm your fear
There’s a light in the hallway
So you know I’m here

So count your blessings every day
It makes the monsters go away
And everything will be okay
You are not alone
You are right at home
Goodnight, goodnight

You won’t need me forever
But I’ll still be here
For we all have our nightmares
Even me, my dear
From now on, if you need me
You can sing this song
There’s a light in the hallway
Burning all night long

So count your blessings every day
It makes the monsters go away
And everything will be okay
You are not alone
You are right at home
Goodnight, goodnight
Goodnight, goodnight

Song Lyric Sunday – New Year’s Day by Pentatonix

It’s no secret that I’m in love with these guys. They are pretty much the only music I listen to lately besides the Hamilton musical.

I’ve been waiting to post this particular song because it’s so fitting for the time of year. It’s also beautiful. It brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. There’s just something so poetic about letting the past go and starting fresh. Equally poetic is the “celebration of moments to come.”

I know I’ve pretty much abandoned my blog lately, but I’m finally done with the crochet projects and am ready to get back to writing. I miss it so much!

I’m wishing you all a safe and fantastic new year celebration with my Song Lyric Sunday. Feel free to read the “rules” below and join in with a selection of your own.

New Year’s Day by Pentatonix
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Tonight, the apple falls in Time
We’ll sing along with Auld Lang Syne
And throw confetti high up into space
Tomorrow morning when we wake
This town will be a different place
And the past will wash away like coffee stains

We could be kings of the world
On top of the nation
It’s a celebration of the moments to come
The city’s on fire
We’re holding up lighters
Raising them higher and we’ve only begun

Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
Let’s kiss the past away
Like New Year’s Day
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
It’s time to celebrate
Like New Year’s Day

Another year will dim devine
We’ll play it back in slow rewind
And laugh about the cold and bitter nights
We’re route our way on maps of stars
Hold on tight to fragile hearts
And keep our friends forever by our side

We could be kings of the world
On top of the nation
It’s a celebration of the moments to come
The city’s on fire
We’re holding up lighters
Raising them higher and we’ve only begun

Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
Let’s kiss the past away
Like New Year’s Day
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
It’s time to celebrate
Like New Year’s Day

Morning breaks, take my hand
Wide awake with arms wide open
Catch your breath, walk this way
No regrets on New Year’s Day
Morning breaks, take my hand
(Kings of the world, top of the nation)
Wide awake with arms wide open
(It’s a celebration of the moments to come)
Catch your breath, walk this way
(City’s on fire, holding up lighters)
No regrets on New Year’s Day
(Raising them higher, we’ve only begun)

We could be kings of the world
On top of the nation
It’s a celebration of the moments to come
The city’s on fire
We’re holding up lighters
Raising them higher and we’ve only begun

Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
Let’s kiss the past away
Like New Year’s Day
Take me all the way
Hear me when I say
It’s time to celebrate
Like New Year’s Day

Song Lyric Sunday – Lean On

There was this commercial that started playing a few months ago and for the life of me, I could never remember what it was about, but I would always get the song stuck in my head. I finally paid attention to it the last time it came on (the ad was for a Nexus phone) and the next morning, I Googled the song.

I’ve never heard of the group before because I don’t think they sing the kind of music I am usually into, but I am obsessed with this song! I really love the lyrics, and I think the beat and the music are super catchy.

I ran into an issue after I decided to use this song though, because one of my favorite groups did a cover of it and I actually like that version better! I’m going to include both versions and you can let me know which you prefer.

I think the reason I like Pentatonix so much is that they are a vocal group and I was in a choir all through high school. I also like that their music, including most of the background, is all from their voices. I think they might add drums or other background for effect, but for the most part, it is all them! I also love their harmonies, a lot!

Anyway, I hope you like this installment of Song Lyric Sunday. Oh, and you’re welcome! I guarantee it will be stuck with you for days!

Lean on by Pentatonix
(I’m also breaking one of my unspoken rules because Pentatonix hasn’t released an official version on YouTube, but I did find this one. Hopefully the link will continue to work…)

Do you recall, not long ago
We would walk on the sidewalk
Innocent, remember?
All we did was care for each other

But the night was warm
We were bold and young
All around the wind blows
We would only hold on to let go

Blow a kiss, fire a gun
We need someone to lean on
Blow a kiss, fire a gun
All we need is somebody to lean on

Eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh

What will we do when we get old?
Will we walk down the same road?
Will you be there by my side?
Standing strong as the waves roll over

When the nights are long
Longing for you to come home
All around the wind blows
We would only hold on to let go

Blow a kiss, fire a gun
We need someone to lean on
Blow a kiss, fire a gun
All we need is somebody to lean on

Eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh
All we need is somebody to lean on
Eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh
All we need is somebody to lean on
Lean on, lean on, lean on, lean on…

Blow a kiss, fire a gun
We need someone to lean on
Blow a kiss, fire a gun
All we need is somebody to lean on
