Song Lyric Sunday – Glitter in the Air by Pink

I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of Pink, but what I have heard of hers, I usually like. This song, however, has me in tears every single time. There are times that lyrics are the essence of beauty and they touch you in a way that is indescribable. This is one of those songs for me.

I am also linking to the performance she did of the song at the Grammy’s. I think it is one of the most brave and amazing performances I’ve seen. I was in tears when I watched it, and  the crowd’s reaction – fellow artists – is pretty much all you need to see to know how truly special it was. Just the fact that she sang upside down while hanging suspended in the air is truly magical.

I hope you enjoy today’s pick for Song Lyric Sunday. Feel free to read the “rules” below and join in with one of your own.

Glitter in the Air by Pink
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands?
Closed your eyes and trusted, just trusted?
Have you ever thrown a fistful of glitter in the air?
Have you ever looked fear in the face and said, “I just don’t care.”?

It’s only half past the point of no return
The tip of the iceberg, the sun before the burn
The thunder before the lightning and the breath before the phrase
“Have you ever felt this way?”

Have you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone?
Your whole life waiting on the ring to prove you’re not alone
Have you ever been touched so gently you had to cry?
Have you ever invited a stranger to come inside?

It’s only half past the point of oblivion
The hourglass on the table, the walk before the run
The breath before the kiss, and the fear before the phrase
“Have you ever felt this way?”

La la la la la la la la

There you are,
Sitting in the garden,
Clutching my coffee,
Calling me sugar
You called me sugar

Have you ever wished for an endless night?
Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight?
Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself will it ever get better than tonight?
Tonight

Song Lyric Sunday – Skyfall by Adele

Is there anything better than Adele? I’m not sure there is. Her voice is just perfection and I haven’t found a song of hers yet that I didn’t just sit in amazement at how well she sings a lyric.

This one was tough because of how much I love Adele. There are just too many songs to choose from that I absolutely love. The reason I picked this one is because I was so obsessed with this song when the movie came out. It only made it better when I realized Adele sang it. (I honestly didn’t do it because there’s a new Bond movie out, even though I’m excited to go see it with the boyfriend next weekend).

This Song Lyric Sunday installment is the perfect blend of Bond and Adele. I love the haunting melody and the lyrics are amazing. “We will stand tall, face it all together at skyfall.” Beautiful! I hope you enjoy it again with me today!

Skyfall by Adele
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

This is the end
Hold your breath and count to ten
Feel the earth move and then
Hear my heart burst again

For this is the end
I’ve drowned and dreamt this moment
So overdue I owe them
Swept away, I’m stolen

Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together

Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At skyfall
That skyfall

Skyfall is where we start
A thousand miles and poles apart
Where worlds collide and days are dark
You may have my number, you can take my name
But you’ll never have my heart

Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together

Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together
At skyfall

(Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall)

Where you go I go
What you see I see
I know I’d never be me
Without the security
Of your loving arms
Keeping me from harm
Put your hand in my hand
And we’ll stand

Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together

Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together
At skyfall

Let the sky fall
We will stand tall
At skyfall
Oh

Song Lyric Sunday – Lean On

There was this commercial that started playing a few months ago and for the life of me, I could never remember what it was about, but I would always get the song stuck in my head. I finally paid attention to it the last time it came on (the ad was for a Nexus phone) and the next morning, I Googled the song.

I’ve never heard of the group before because I don’t think they sing the kind of music I am usually into, but I am obsessed with this song! I really love the lyrics, and I think the beat and the music are super catchy.

I ran into an issue after I decided to use this song though, because one of my favorite groups did a cover of it and I actually like that version better! I’m going to include both versions and you can let me know which you prefer.

I think the reason I like Pentatonix so much is that they are a vocal group and I was in a choir all through high school. I also like that their music, including most of the background, is all from their voices. I think they might add drums or other background for effect, but for the most part, it is all them! I also love their harmonies, a lot!

Anyway, I hope you like this installment of Song Lyric Sunday. Oh, and you’re welcome! I guarantee it will be stuck with you for days!

Lean on by Pentatonix
(I’m also breaking one of my unspoken rules because Pentatonix hasn’t released an official version on YouTube, but I did find this one. Hopefully the link will continue to work…)

Do you recall, not long ago
We would walk on the sidewalk
Innocent, remember?
All we did was care for each other

But the night was warm
We were bold and young
All around the wind blows
We would only hold on to let go

Blow a kiss, fire a gun
We need someone to lean on
Blow a kiss, fire a gun
All we need is somebody to lean on

Eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh

What will we do when we get old?
Will we walk down the same road?
Will you be there by my side?
Standing strong as the waves roll over

When the nights are long
Longing for you to come home
All around the wind blows
We would only hold on to let go

Blow a kiss, fire a gun
We need someone to lean on
Blow a kiss, fire a gun
All we need is somebody to lean on

Eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh
All we need is somebody to lean on
Eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh, eeh ooh
All we need is somebody to lean on
Lean on, lean on, lean on, lean on…

Blow a kiss, fire a gun
We need someone to lean on
Blow a kiss, fire a gun
All we need is somebody to lean on

Song Lyric Sunday – Sunday Morning by Maroon 5

This song seems to fit with the day since it’s all about Sunday morning. Sunday mornings, to me, are about sleeping in and snuggling with the boyfriend under the covers. There is something so rejuvenating about it that I miss it when it doesn’t happen.

I’m not sure there’s a “story” around this song, especially since the video is just a bunch of people singing karoake. But I like to think this song is just about holding the ones you love close and enjoying Sunday morning for what it can offer – a chance to be in the moment with someone you love. I have to say, that even if you don’t have someone to snuggle with, just lazing around on a Sunday morning by yourself is pretty damn great just by itself.

I have always loved Maroon 5. We actually saw them open for Matchbox Twenty long before they actually hit it big and I spent months looking for their song on the radio before it finally happened. Adam Levine’s voice is masterful in its range and I think he’s pretty nice to look at too.

I hope you enjoy this installment of Song Lyric Sunday. Feel free to read the rules below and post your own so we can all share amazing music together.

Sunday Morning by Maroon 5
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Sunday morning rain is falling
Steal some covers share some skin
Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable
You twist to fit the mold that I am in
But things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do
And I would gladly hit the road get up and go if I knew
That someday it would lead me back to you
That someday it would lead me back to you

That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave

Fingers trace your every outline
Paint a picture with my hands
Back and forth we sway like branches in a storm
Change the weather still together when it ends

That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave

But things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do
Sunday morning rain is falling and I’m calling out to you
Singing someday it’ll bring me back to you
Find a way to bring myself back home to you

May not know

That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
Driving slow

Oh, yeah, yeah…

There is a flower in your hair.
I’m a flower in your hair.

Oh, yeah, yeah, oh

Song Lyric Sunday – Stay by Mayday Parade

As promised, here is the second song that made me cry last week. I hope you have some Kleenex handy…

I love this song, but it didn’t ever make me cry until I saw the video. I suppose I never considered that it could go a bit deeper and when someone says “please stay” they aren’t just talking about staying in a relationship. It could be they are saying please don’t die, which brings it to a whole new level.

I love Mayday Parade. It has always been one of those bands, though, that I don’t really think about until they start playing on my iPod when I’m running or when they happen to play during a long shuffle of my favorite tunes. And I have a hard time picking just one song that I like. I honestly like every song on the one album I have.

Favorite line: “And I’d be blessed by the light of your company slowly lifting me to somewhere new.”

I hope you enjoy this installment of Song Lyric Sunday. Feel free to read the rules below and post your own.

Stay by Mayday Parade
Lyrics found at AZLyrics

I need some time just deliver the things that I need for now
Everything that I feel’s like a warm deep calm casting over me
And it’s taking me to somewhere new

If you believe that everything’s alright
You won’t be all alone tonight
And I’d be blessed by the light of your company,
Slowly lifting me to somewhere new

Oh can you tell, I haven’t slept very well
Since the last time that we spoke, you said
“Please understand if I see you again don’t even say hello.”

Please

What a night it is, when you live like this
And you’re coming up beneath the clouds,
Don’t let me down
All the love’s still there I just don’t know what to do with it now
You know, I still can’t believe we both did some things
I don’t even wanna think about
Just say you love me and I’ll say “I’m sorry,
I don’t want anybody else to feel this way”
No, no, no

Oh can you tell, I haven’t slept very well
Since the last time that we spoke, I said
“Please understand I’ve been drinking again, and all I do is hope”

Please… stay
Please stay

I’ll admit I was wrong about everything
Cause I’m high and I don’t wanna come down
All the fun that we had on your mothers couch,
I don’t even wanna think about

I’m not strong enough for the both of us
What was I supposed to do
You know I love you
Whoa-oh

Please just stay
Stay
