Song Lyric Sunday – Sunday Morning by Maroon 5

This song seems to fit with the day since it’s all about Sunday morning. Sunday mornings, to me, are about sleeping in and snuggling with the boyfriend under the covers. There is something so rejuvenating about it that I miss it when it doesn’t happen.

I’m not sure there’s a “story” around this song, especially since the video is just a bunch of people singing karoake. But I like to think this song is just about holding the ones you love close and enjoying Sunday morning for what it can offer – a chance to be in the moment with someone you love. I have to say, that even if you don’t have someone to snuggle with, just lazing around on a Sunday morning by yourself is pretty damn great just by itself.

I have always loved Maroon 5. We actually saw them open for Matchbox Twenty long before they actually hit it big and I spent months looking for their song on the radio before it finally happened. Adam Levine’s voice is masterful in its range and I think he’s pretty nice to look at too.

I hope you enjoy this installment of Song Lyric Sunday. Feel free to read the rules below and post your own so we can all share amazing music together.

Sunday Morning by Maroon 5
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Sunday morning rain is falling
Steal some covers share some skin
Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable
You twist to fit the mold that I am in
But things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do
And I would gladly hit the road get up and go if I knew
That someday it would lead me back to you
That someday it would lead me back to you

That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave

Fingers trace your every outline
Paint a picture with my hands
Back and forth we sway like branches in a storm
Change the weather still together when it ends

That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave

But things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do
Sunday morning rain is falling and I’m calling out to you
Singing someday it’ll bring me back to you
Find a way to bring myself back home to you

May not know

That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
Driving slow

Oh, yeah, yeah…

There is a flower in your hair.
I’m a flower in your hair.

Oh, yeah, yeah, oh

Song Lyric Sunday – Unwell by Matchbox Twenty

Sometimes the hardest part about this whole process is picking the song, like there could ever be just one song that is the one. Especially when we are discussing a band that’s been around for a long time and they have multiple albums.

I almost picked the very first song I heard from Matchbox Twenty and fell in love with. It was my first foray into alternative music because up until that point, I was a country music girl. I still hear some country music and remember why I loved it for so long, but for me, I find so much more depth in alternative music. Not that I can’t listen to something just because it sounds good, but I enjoy it so much more when the lyrics combine with music to create a whole piece that touches me on multiple levels.

I find this song to be delightful, taking a lighter look at feeling like you just aren’t normal, which has been my status quo most of my life. I’ve been known to say, “I’m not crazy!” as if just the words would prevent it from being true. There have been moments in my life where I really felt like I was crazy, but I don’t know… Sometimes you have to just change the way you look at it. I’m not crazy, I’m just “a little unwell.” Fake it ’til you make it really can work.

I hope you enjoy this installment of Song Lyric Sunday from one of my very favorite bands, going all the way back to almost the beginning. Who doesn’t love some Rob Thomas, anyway?

Feel free to read the rules below and post your own!

Unwell by Matchbox Twenty
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

All day staring at the ceiling
Making friends with shadows on my wall
All night hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something

Hold on
Feeling like I’m headed for a breakdown
And I don’t know why

But I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell
I know right now you can’t tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you’ll see
A different side of me
I’m not crazy, I’m just a little impaired
I know right now you don’t care
But soon enough you’re gonna think of me
And how I used to be…me

I’m talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
And I know, I know they’ve all been talking about me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think there must be something wrong with me
Out of all the hours thinking
Somehow I’ve lost my mind

But I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell
I know right now you can’t tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you’ll see
A different side of me
I’m not crazy, I’m just a little impaired
I know right now you don’t care
But soon enough you’re gonna think of me
And how I used to be

I’ve been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon they’ll come to get me
Yeah, they’re taking me away

But I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell
I know right now you can’t tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you’ll see
A different side of me
I’m not crazy, I’m just a little impaired
I know right now you don’t care
But soon enough you’re gonna think of me
And how I used to be

Yeah, how I used to be
How I used to be
Well, I’m just a little unwell
How I used to be
I’m just a little unwell

Song Lyric Sunday – Pass Slowly by Seether

I’m not a huge video person. I didn’t really plan it that way. I just never even think to pull up a video to a song. Probably because YouTube drives me crazy. I wish it was easier to find the “official” video to songs, but you usually have to wade through a bunch of posts before locating it; or you never actually do, which probably means the band didn’t post one.

Anyway, my point is, I had two different songs picked out for today and I was going to sit down and pick one by watching the video. I honestly knew the songs were on the slow side and the lyrics were poignant, but watching the videos had me sobbing like a baby and I’m still torn about which one to post. I suppose that means that you’ll be crying with me for two weeks in a row because the other one is going up next Sunday.

So, rolling the dice, you’re getting Pass Slowly by Seether. Yet another band I have seen with Adelle live in concert, although I have to say that I didn’t much enjoy them live. It didn’t make me like them any less, though. I still love their music and this song gets me every time, even without the video.

I honestly thought of a lover and how if you don’t see them very often, you want them to pass slowly when they are here so you can eek out every ounce of happiness that is possible before they leave again.

I love all the lyrics to this song, so nothing to point out as a favorite line.

I hope you brought some Kleenex for this installment of Song Lyric Sunday. As always, feel free to read the rules below and post your own. Everyone is welcome here.

Pass Slowly by Seether
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

I think it’s time for a change
Cause things feel out of touch
And I watch you walk away, again

Well this feels like too much
(Can you take it away?)
And things won’t go my way
Now I’ll have to fade away, my friend

So pass slowly
And carry me down
And render me lonely
When you’re not around

I need to shake off this pain
But courage takes too much
So I have to walk away, again

Oh God I miss your touch
(Can you take it away?)
The way that you keep me safe
I won’t let you fade away, my friend

So pass slowly
And carry me down
Remember me only
When you’re not around

Oh yea, can’t you stay awhile longer?
Oh yea, won’t you stay?
God please stay
And pass slowly
(It’s time for a change)
And whittle me down
(Cause things feel out of touch)
And render me lonely
(I’ll watch you walk away, again)
When you’re not around

So pass slowly
(This feels like too much)
And let me down easy
(And things won’t go my way)
Render me lonely
(I’ll have to fade away, my friend)
When you’re not around

Song Lyric Sunday – Graveyard Dancing by D.R.U.G.S.

I’m going to throw out a huge “warning” to all my followers. If you don’t like heavier rock music, this isn’t the song for you, so I will completely understand if you skip the video.(Besides, I didn’t think the video was all that great. I think they meant to post another one, but I don’t think they ever got around to it.) The lyrics, however, are pretty dang awesome and that’s why I decided to take a chance and put something up that isn’t entirely “main-stream.”

This is yet another band I have to thank my daughter for introducing to me. I also know the juicy details around how this band formed and how it broke apart perhaps a year later; which is sad, because their one album is ridiculously good. The one thing I never really liked was the name of their band. The full name is Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows.

Adelle always had the inside scoop on bands; still does, actually. I’m just not around her on a daily basis to hear it all anymore. The good thing is, Jaxon has started liking some of the same music I do, so last night on the way home from a football game, we spent about 15 minutes jamming out to some pretty hard core music. I was in heaven!

I know that we all take different meanings from songs and this one reminded me of a pretty bad relationship I was in. Probably more than one. So many things can tear a relationship apart and there are times you love a person but there just isn’t any hope of making the relationship work for a multitude of different reasons. When you haven’t made the decision to leave yet but things are pretty terrible, it can feel like your dancing in a graveyard of broken promises and dreams.

Favorite lyric: “Your slips and slurs and play on words all fall from your mouth. Each mutter rolling, dripping from your tongue.”

As always feel free to play along with Song Lyric Sunday by reading the rules below and posting your own.

Graveyard Dancing by D.R.U.G.S.
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Yeah!

The locusts took over my brain.
I’m not living for you,
I’m just living so chill with your games.
You hope for sun, I want rain.
We just tear down the walls and the home that our jealousy built.

You’re not as pretty as you maybe think that you are.

It’s been watching you.
Your slips and slurs and play on words.
All fall from your mouth.
Each mutter, rolling dripping from your tongue.
My plagues begun.

This thin man is starting to fade.
You won’t be living for long
So, just fly with me, die with me, babe.
They all swim while I drown.
They just dig up the dirt and bury us into the ground.

You’re not as special as you maybe think that you are.

It’s been watching you.
Your slips and slurs and play on words.
All fall from your mouth.
Each mutter, rolling dripping from your tongue.
My plagues begun.

Why is it I love you so much and all you do is
hate, hate, hate everything you’ve become?
Why is it I love you so much and all you do is
hate, hate, hate everything you’ve become?

It’s been watching you.
Your slips and slurs and play on words.
All fall from your mouth.
Each mutter, rolling dripping from your tongue.
It’s been watching you.
Your slips and slurs and play on words.
All fall from your mouth.
Each mutter, rolling dripping from your tongue.
My plagues begun.

Song Lyric Sunday – Say You Like Me by We The Kings

If I had one band that I could say was my favorite, it would be We The Kings. They just make me happy – the music, the lyrics; and I have to tell you, the music video to this song is an all-out geek fest and I loved it! Oh, and the lead singer is a red-head, so there’s that…

I started listening to them right before I took Adelle to our first Warped Tour. We were still in line when they started playing on the main stage, so I had to listen to most of it from a distance. I was pretty sad about it because they were the only reason I was truly excited about going. Everything else was entirely for Adelle.

Since then, I have seen them live on several occasions. The one that sticks out most in my head was when they played at a small venue in down town Salt Lake City. I took Adelle and two of her good friends. We ended up right near the front and by the time it was over, none of us had a voice.

They played this song and there was a part where they actually filmed the crowd singing it. Adelle’s friend posted the video on her Facebook feed a few days later and we all got a kick out of pointing ourselves out, although mostly all you could see was an arm or the top of someone’s head. I was still able to pull the video up a few years ago, but when I tried to find it recently, I realized I was no longer friends with the individual. (Is it weird that I’m friends with some of my kids’ friends on social media?)

I could probably do the memory-lane thing all day when it comes to this band. So I will just post the song and let you have fun with it. As always, feel free to read the rules below and post your own.

Say You Like Me by We The Kings
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics
(There’s a lot of repetition, so I removed some of it for ease of reading)

She’s the girl that no one ever knows.
And I say hi, but she’s too shy to say hello.
She’s just waiting for that one to take her hand
And shake her up.
I bet I could.

I wish my heart was always on her mind.
‘Cause she’s on mine like all day, all the time.
Forget me not, forget me now.
I’ve come too far to turn around.
I’m here tonight.

‘Cause I’m never going down,
I’m never giving up.
I’m never gonna leave,
So put your hands up.
If you like me,
Then say you like me.
I’m never going down,
I’m never giving up.
I’m never gonna leave,
So put your hands up.
If you like me,
Then say you like me.

Whoa, oh, oh, oh.

She’s the girl that no one ever knows.
Works a double just to buy her clothes.
Nicotine and faded dreams,
Baby, just believe
There’s no one else like me.

‘Cause I’m never going down,
I’m never giving up.
I’m never gonna leave,
So put your hands up.
If you like me,
Then say you like me.
I’m never going down,
I’m never giving up.
I’m never gonna leave,
So put your hands up.
If you like me,
Then say you like me.

Whoa, oh, oh, oh.

It’s time to fall into my arms.
‘Cause I’ve been waiting for too long.
You’re an angel,
Grab your halo,
And lets fly tonight.

‘Cause I’m never going down,
I’m never giving up.
I’m never gonna leave,
So put your hands up.
If you like me,
Then say you like me.

‘Cause I’m never going down,
I’m never giving up.
I’m never gonna leave,
So put your hands up.
If you like me,
Then say you like me.
I’m never going down,
I’m never giving up.
I’m never gonna leave,
So put your hands up.
If you like me,
Then say you like me.

Whoa, oh, oh, oh.
Just say you like me.

Quote Challenge – Day Three

Thanks again to Nortina Mariela for nominating me for this challenge. I’ve enjoyed sharing my love of music with you all. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as well.

The choice of my last song was a bit tougher. This band showed up on one of my play lists and no matter which song I listened to or read the lyrics for, I couldn’t quite decide which song to use, so I went with one I’ve loved for a while. I’ve only ever heard it on the radio, though, and when they moved on to newer songs, I stopped hearing it. When I found it again, I was ecstatic and am happy to say it is now part of my music.

Once again, I grabbed the lyrics from AZLyrics and I’ve linked to YouTube so you can check it out if you are so inclined.

More than any others I’ve heard or read, many of this band’s lyrics come across as poetry to me. I don’t have a whole lot more to say other than I love this band!

“I Will Wait” by Mumford & Sons

Well, I came home
Like a stone
And I fell heavy into your arms
These days of dust
Which we’ve known
Will blow away with this new sunBut I’ll kneel down,
Wait for now
And I’ll kneel down,
Know my ground

And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

So break my step
And relent
Well, you forgave and I won’t forget
Know what we’ve seen
And him with less
Now in some way shake the excess

‘Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

Now I’ll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So tame my flesh
And fix my eyes
A tethered mind freed from the lies

And I’ll kneel down,
Wait for now
I’ll kneel down,
Know my ground

Raise my hands
Paint my spirit gold
And bow my head
Keep my heart slow

‘Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

Okay, so part of the challenge is to pick three bloggers. The downside is that I’ve been pretty absent on my reader so I have no idea who has participated and who hasn’t. I’m just going to pick three and if you’ve already done it, take it as a huge compliment from me to you and just move on. If you haven’t done it, though, it’s well worth it!
Here are the rules again, just in case you missed them:
  • Post one quote for three consecutive days which can come from your favorite book, author, song, role model, etc.
  • Nominate three other bloggers
  • Have fun. Try not to make this challenge “forced”

And my three nominees:
