Song Lyric Sunday – Whisper by A Fine Frenzy

One Cell in the Sea was one of my favorite albums at a time in my life when everything was changing and I was breaking out of an abusive relationship.  When I listen to the songs from the album today, they still give me so much hope.

When I listened to this song again today, it so accurately described how I’ve been feeling lately.  It’s been a rough year and I’ve really felt like I was losing myself in many ways.  But, I believe there is always hope, and if you can just hold on, you may find that everything will look differently given some time.  “If you stay real close, I will reach you.”

I also love how poetic the lyrics to this song are.

I hope you enjoy!

Running the race
Like a mouse in a cage
Getting nowhere but I’m trying
Forging ahead
But I’m stuck in the bed
That I made so I’m lying

But if you keep real close
Yeah, you stay real close
I will reach you

I’m down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me still

Eager to please
Trying to be what they need
But I’m so very tired
I’ve stopped trying to find
Any peace in my mind
Because it tangles the wires

But if you keep real close
Yeah, you stay real close
I will reach you

I’m down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me
Can you hear me still

The sound tires on my lips
To fade away into forgetting

I’m down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me
Can you hear me

I’m down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me
Can you hear me still

Song Lyric Sunday – Slow Dancing in a Burning Room by John Mayer

I’ve posted a few John Mayer songs, but I’m not going to apologize.  He always seems to say the things that need to be said and I love the bluesy way in which he puts those words to music.  I don’t know, I pretty much think he’s brilliant.

You all might think this is an odd choice for today’s “celebration”, but it was the first song I thought of when I posted the theme.  It is also a pretty apt song to explain my relationship with my Dad.  He’s always been this enigma in my life – the person I always wanted to be close to but could never quite get there.  We’ve been slow dancing in a burning room for quite some time now and I honestly don’t think we’ll ever really get to that point that I’ve always dreamed of.

I love him, but I’m starting to realize I truly love the “idea” of him rather than who he actually is.  I don’t think I’ll ever be enough and he certainly has proven that he’ll never be that light in my life that I’ve always craved and needed.  It’s a sad, startling realization, but sometimes it’s better to face the truth rather than being hurt over and over again.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the song!

It’s not a silly little moment
It’s not the storm before the calm
This is the deep and dyin’ breath of
This love we’ve been workin’ on
Can’t seem to hold you like I want to
So I can feel you in my arms
Nobody’s gonna come and save you
We pulled too many false alarms
We’re goin’ down
And you can see it too
We’re goin’ down
And you know that we’re doomed
My dear
We’re slow dancing in a burnin’ room
I was the one you always dreamed of
You were the one I tried to draw
How dare you say it’s nothing to me
Baby, you’re the only light I ever saw
I’ll make the most of all the sadness
You’ll be a bitch because you can
You try to hit me, just hurt me
So you leave me feeling dirty
‘Cause you can’t understand
We’re goin’ down
And you can see it too
We’re goin’ down
And you know that we’re doomed
My dear
We’re slow dancing in a burnin’ room
Go cry about it, why don’t you
Go cry about it, why don’t you
Go cry about it, why don’t you
My dear, we’re slow dancin’ in a burnin’ room
Burnin’ room, burnin’ room
Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?

#frapalymo Day 22 – Forever United

Forever United

Take my hand
I’ll show you the way
One step
Two steps
Twirl around and fall
Back into my arms

Look into my eyes
You will see
My love
Joyfully radiating out
Surrounding our bodies
In sweet bliss

Step by step
Glance for glance
I fall in love
With you
Over and over again
Our hearts and souls
Forever united

#frapalymo is hosted by @FrauPaulchen and is translated by Bee on her blog The Bee Writes. Today was a music prompt from @Reticulum. I didn’t listen to the full 18 minutes because this one happened pretty quickly. It made me think of dancing with a lover. I went on a date with the boyfriend last night and, I don’t know; I guess you could say I’m just feeling the love and wanted to share it with everyone today.

#frapalymo Day 15 – Sometimes

Sometimes

Sometimes
Art captivates the senses
A tingling that travels
The length of the body

Sometimes
A body’s movement to
The tinkling notes of a piano
Combine in a breathless display

Sometimes
The only response is
A building of tears that starts in the gut
And spills out of every pore

Sometimes
Beauty has no words

#frapalymo is hosted by @FrauPaulchen and is translated by Bee on her blog The Bee Writes. Today’s prompt is a video of Olga Kuraeva dancing to the music of Heinali – Sway Sway. I don’t know how many of you actually click on the links and look at the inspiration behind the poems, but I highly recommend you do it this time. The video is amazing and I just didn’t have words for it.
