Song Lyric Sunday – Yellow by Coldplay

I’m thinking this is fast becoming my most featured band for SLS. However, I wouldn’t say they were my all-time favorite band, which is sort of funny if you think about it. I guess their songs just seem to fit the themes. This one became the antithesis of the theme, though, so I’m sort of breaking my own rules.

I’ll have to admit that I wasn’t very excited about the theme today. I was just running out of time and fresh out of good ideas, so I went with it. It doesn’t seem to have affected you all too much, since everyone seems to have come up with something, whether it fit the theme or not. (I have no idea if they do since I haven’t made the time to listen to everyone’s posts, but you know me… I’ll get to them).

Anyway, this song. I decided to go with it because it is basically a song without a plan. If you read the lyrics, it’s hard to catch any meaning, although I’ve attached plenty of meaning to them as I am wont to do. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and this is what Chris Martin said about it when he was on The Howard Stern Show:

The word “yellow” has absolutely no meaning whatsoever and while writing the rest of the song he tried his best to change “yellow” to something else since every lyric before yellow made no sense but in the end the word “yellow” just sounded right. Martin also told Stern that through the years depending on the attitude and manner of whoever interviews him, he would make up some story about a song or album titles just to move on to the next question. Martin applauded Stern saying “I like you, Howard, so that’s the first time I’ve ever told anyone the truth behind ‘Yellow’.”
And, here it is. It was my first favorite Coldplay song, so I hope you like it!
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah they were all yellow
I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called “Yellow”
So then I took my turn
Oh what a thing to have done
And it was all yellow
Your skin
Oh yeah, your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
You know, you know I love you so
You know I love you so
I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh what a thing to do
‘Cause you were all yellow
I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all yellow
Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
And you know
For you I’d bleed myself dry
For you I’d bleed myself dry
It’s true
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And all the things that you do

Song Lyric Sunday – The Scientist by Coldplay

I know I’ve been doing SLS for quite some time, so it’s not surprising that I’m starting to show some of my favorite bands more and more.  When I first started, I really wanted to make sure I was posting a variety of music, since I do have a huge variety of different music I like.  However, I do have my favorites, so when things are hard, I tend to fall back on them, which I am embracing this week.

As I’ve said, I love Coldplay.  I think their lyrics are on point, especially in this particular song.  When I first heard it, I wasn’t too sure about it, but then when I read the lyrics I was hooked.  Science just doesn’t explain love, but for some reason, we try to logically decipher our way through relationships.  Logic is a good thing, really, but sometimes, it’s okay to just listen to your heart.  However, that doesn’t mean it’s easy.

I think this song is about how relationships can stall, especially when you’ve been with that person for a while.  It’s not really logical to assume you can ever go back to those first few months of bliss, but sometimes it’s good to remember all the reasons why you fell in love in the first place.

I hope you enjoy!

Come up to meet you
Tell you I’m sorry
You don’t know how lovely you are
I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh let’s go back to the start
Running in circles, coming up tails
Heads on a science apart
Nobody said it was easy
It’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh take me back to the start
I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling your puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing our tails
Coming back as we are
Nobody said it was easy
Oh it’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I’m going back to the start

Song Lyric Sunday – Shiver by Coldplay

I have to tell you that I was totally planning to pick the most obvious song this week (Hi The Police and Every Breath you Take), but I happened to look up a list about “obsession” songs and ran across one of my favorites by Coldplay.  I’m actually sad to realize that the lyrics to this one are pretty creepy. I honestly had no idea when I fell in love with it.

Also, this song reminds me of playing guitar hero on the Wii with the kiddos when they were just a little bit younger.  I was actually pretty good at this one, and it didn’t hurt that I love the song.

Now, sadly, I’m hearing it in a whole new light…

I don’t know… I might still be in love it.  Is there something so wrong with fighting for the person you love??  I guess it’s bad when you’re being all creepy-stalker about it, so, yeah, I’m thinking you don’t want to make someone “shiver” in a bad way…

It’s Coldplay though, and they’re magnificent, so I couldn’t quite help myself.

I do hope you enjoy!

So I look in your direction
But you pay me no attention, do you
I know you don’t listen to me
‘Cause you say you see straight through me, don’t you

And on and on from the moment I wake
To the moment I sleep
I’ll be there by your side
Just you try and stop me
I’ll be waiting in line
Just to see if you can

Did she want me to change
Well I change for good
And I want you to know
But you always get your way
I wanted to say

Don’t you shiver, shiver, shiver

I’ll always be waiting for you
So you know how much I need you
But you never even see me, do you

And is this is my final chance of getting you

And on and on from the moment I wake
To the moment I sleep
I’ll be there by your side
Just you try and stop me
I’ll be waiting in line
Just to see if you care

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Did she want me to change
Well I change for good
And I want you to know
But you always get your way
I wanted to say

Don’t you shiver
Don’t you shiver

Sing it loud and clear
I’ll always be waiting for you

Yeah I’ll always be waiting for you
Yeah I’ll always be waiting for you
Yeah I’ll always be waiting for you
For you I will always be waiting

And it’s you I see, but you don’t see me
And it’s you I hear, so loud and clear
I sing it loud and clear
And I’ll always be waiting for you

So I look in your direction
But you pay me no attention
And you know how much I need you
But you never even see me

Song Lyric Sunday – Viva La Vida by Coldplay

To be honest, this one was kind of difficult for me this week.  Music is such a huge part of my life and memories and I’ve already posted about most of them.  I was willing to re-do one or two of them, but then I remembered this song, and I figured it was perfect.

I’ve always shared music with my kids and I’m so happy that they grew up with a love for music.  They’ve all developed their own tastes, though, which is why this choice is perfect.  It took me back to those days when I had just left their dad and was living in an apartment with them.  I had to pick them up from daycare or their dad’s house, and we used to listen to my iPod while we were driving home.  I used to give each one of them a choice of song, which usually got us all the way home.

Adelle picked one of her heavy rock (usually screamy) songs.  Jaxon would pick country music  and Andru always picked this song.  Every time he picked it, the other two would groan.  I don’t know why he loves it so much and why they, in turn, disliked it so much, but it it will always remind me of my kids and their very different personalities and tastes in music.

I had the opportunity to see Coldplay live in concert with Andru last year (which I, of course posted about already) and he was stoked when they played this song.  It isn’t my favorite Coldplay song, but I will always love it for the memories.

Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Listened as the crowd would sing,
“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
Once you’d gone there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn’t believe what I’d become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
I know St. Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
I know St. Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Song Lyric Sunday – A Head Full of Dreams by Coldplay

I’ve posted a Coldplay song before, and I remember when I was researching that post, I thought it would be so much fun to see them live.  I didn’t buy tickets and I wasn’t planning on going when they came into town, but my company has a suite at the venue they played in, and ten minutes before the end of work on the day before the concert, my boss walked over to my desk and just handed me two tickets.

I was so excited!  I texted my fiance to see if he wanted to go with me, but his first response was, “Who’s Coldplay?”  So, I told him I was going to take my son instead. Andru knew and liked a grand total of one song by Coldplay, but he was just as excited as I was when I told him.

At first, Andru wouldn’t stand up, but I was on my feet for 90% of the two hours they played.  It was such a great concert!  Andru finally stood up about half way through and he stayed on his feet through the rest of it (especially after they finally played “his” song).

I love what they stand for and the message they spread.  I realized at the concert, though, that many of the songs I knew and liked were older.  They played this song at the concert, but I hadn’t heard it before.  It is such a brilliant song, though, and I hope you guys like it as much as I do!

oh I think I landed
in a world I hadn’t seen
when I’m feeling ordinary
when I don’t know what I mean

oh I think I landed
where there are miracles at work
for the thirst and for the hunger
come the conference of birds

saying it’s true, it’s not what it seems
leave your broken windows open
and in the light just streams
and you get a head, a head full of dreams
you can see the change you wanted
be what you want to be
and you get a head, a head full of dreams
into life I’ve just been spoken
with a head full, a head full of dreams

oh I think I landed
where there are miracles at work
when you got me open-handed
when you got me lost for words
I sing oh-oh-oh

A head full of dreams
A head full of dreams
Into life I’ve just been woken
With a head full, a head full of dreams

Song Lyric Sunday – Paradise by Coldplay

Coldplay is an amazing band and I’ve always loved them.  I had a certain song in mind when I started writing this post, but then I kept listening to all the songs I love and it got to a point I really couldn’t decide.  I think that’s why I love lyrics so much though.  I finally decided to go with the one that spoke to my heart in a way that the others didn’t.

Sometimes you hear a song and it sounds like they are singing about you, your struggles, your life… that’s what I felt when I read the lyrics to this song and listened to it again today.  The lyric “and so lying underneath those stormy skies, she’d say, ‘oh, ohohohoh I know the sun must set to rise'” is amazing and brought tears to my eyes.  I’ve had a pretty stormy life, but there have been moments of paradise along the way.  Sometimes I believe that’s the best we can hope for.

But, don’t stop dreaming because sometimes the sun rises and your life is the peaceful paradise you always dreamed of.

Feel free to post a Coldplay song (because I just can’t get enough of them!) or a song that speaks to your heart and tells your life story.  I love sharing music and appreciate those who share music with me every Sunday, and for those of you who just started.

When she was just a girl
She expected the world
But it flew away from her reach so
She ran away in her sleep
And dreamed of
Para-para-paradise, Para-para-paradise, Para-para-paradise
Every time she closed her eyes

When she was just a girl
She expected the world
But it flew away from her reach
And the bullets catch in her teeth
Life goes on, it gets so heavy
The wheel breaks the butterfly
Every tear a waterfall
In the night the stormy night she’ll close her eyes
In the night the stormy night away she’d fly

And dreams of
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh-oh
She’d dream of
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh-oh-oh

Lalalalalalalalalalala
And so lying underneath those stormy skies
She’d say, “oh, ohohohoh I know the sun must set to rise”

This could be
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh-oh

This could be
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh-oh

This could be
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Para-para-paradise
Oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh-oh
