Song Lyric Sunday – Hollow by Breaking Benjamin

I’m feeling like a terrible host. I haven’t listened to all your entries in three weeks now! I know I always say it, but I really do mean it; I will catch up. One of these days I will also stay caught up for more than a week.

This song suits me just fine today. It makes me want to listen to the whole album and just drown in the grayness of it all. I think there are beautiful moments in the album, but I wouldn’t call it “happy”.

Anyway, I don’t have much else to say. I just hope you enjoy the song as much as I do!

Stay alive
Heaven holds a place for us tonight
I am paralyzed
Close your eyes
Drive away the cloud that hides the light
And leave the pain behind
Dead alive
Find a way to bury all the lies
Escape the pain inside
‘Cause I don’t want to fall
Or let you go
Love left me hollow
I’m with you in the end
Cold, crippled, and shallow
Don’t leave me here again
Fruit of life
I can hear the voices of the hive
Chemicals collide
Loaded smile
Light the way for those you left behind
Set the earth on fire
‘Cause I don’t want enough
I want it all
Love left me hollow
I’m with you in the end
Cold, crippled, and shallow
Don’t leave me here again
I can’t go on
You are bound to break me in
I come undone
Don’t you drag me down again
I’ve come undone!
Love left me hollow
I’m with you in the end
Cold, crippled, and shallow
Don’t leave me here again
I can’t go on
You are bound to break me in
I come undone
Don’t you drag me down again

Song Lyric Sunday – Angels Fall by Breaking Benjamin

This is one of those bands that I started listening to with my daughter when she was in junior high/high school, so I know there’s lots of their music that I haven’t heard.  I fell in love with their 2006 album, “Phobia”, and didn’t think I would love another album quite as much.  When my son told me they had released a new album in 2015, I decided to check it out, not really thinking it would go anywhere.

Boy was I wrong.  I love “Dark Before Dawn” so much.  It is dark and sad, but I honestly can’t stop listening to it.  I’ve shared a few songs from this album, but I’ve honestly been waiting for the chance to share this one as well.  I don’t think I could even explain why this song and this album have become favorites of mine.  In some ways, it feels like the story they are telling is my own.

I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do!

I tried to face the fight within
But it’s over
I’m ready for the riot to begin and surrender
I walked the path, it led me to the end, remember
I’m caught beneath with nothing left to give, forever
When angels fall with broken wings
I can’t give up, I can’t give in
When all is lost and daylight ends
I’ll carry you and we will live forever, for ever
Grey skies will chase the light away, no longer
I fought the fight, now only dark remains forever
Divided I will stand
And I will let this end
When angels fall with broken wings
I can’t give up, I can’t give in
When all is lost and daylight ends
I’ll carry you and we will live forever, for ever
The sun begins to rise and wash away the sky
The turning of the tide, don’t leave it all behind
And I will never say goodbye
When angels fall with broken wings
I can’t give up, I can’t give in
When all is lost and daylight ends
I’ll carry you and we will live forever, for ever
Forever, forever

Song Lyric Sunday – Evil Angel by Breaking Benjamin

I suppose this wasn’t a very lively theme this week, but I do like exploring all different kinds of emotions and things through music.  I find it more interesting than just posting a favorite song, although that can be fun as well.

I didn’t immediately think of a song when I posted the theme.  I actually went searching through my library and even did a search online, but somehow I just knew that Breaking Benjamin would have a song about lies… they tend to post songs that are darker in nature.  I still find their music and lyrics compelling though, and sometimes it’s nice to just wallow in sadness for a bit.

This song, to me, has an overall theme of the lies we live with and deal with every day.  Sometimes it feels like there isn’t much authenticity to be had.  I’ve always tried to be an honest person, and I’m probably honest to a point that isn’t nice sometimes.  That actually makes me think of a funny story.

I was at my sister’s house for a party a few months ago and she made deviled eggs for the party.  Now, everyone has told me that they love my deviled eggs, but she asked me to bring a salad instead.  I was excited to taste the deviled eggs, because who doesn’t love them?  I took one bite and almost couldn’t finish it.  I immediately told my sister that they were awful.  Maybe I should have lightened it up a little, but honestly, she ate them and said the same thing.  Anyway, I try to soften the truth sometimes, but most of the time, brutally honest is what you’re going to get from me.

I hope you enjoy another song by Breaking Benjamin!

The lyrics are in the video, so I won’t repeat them in the post.

Song Lyric Sunday – The Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamin

Breaking Benjamin is one of those bands that reminds me of my daughter.  We used to listen to this album when I drove her to school in the mornings.  It didn’t happen every day, but when it did, we usually listened to this album.

I find that when I’m down, I tend to turn to their harder, darker music.  It’s not necessarily soothing, but it finds a way to fill the void, so to speak.

This is one of those songs that makes me think of my depression, especially on a day like today when I’ve been struggling.  I can’t imagine what it’s like to be on the outside looking in on someone who has thoughts that are so far outside the realm of reality.  My hubby asked me today what I was thinking and I told him he didn’t really want to know, but then I ended up telling him anyway.  Even to my own ears, they sounded pretty awful.

It’s hard to be in a dark place and not know how to find my way out.  I can only imagine what it’s like for him to watch me suffer in that place.  He’s been a gem all day and I’m truly grateful for his love and support.

If you didn’t already know, I truly love this band and I do hope you enjoy!

Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

If I had to
I would put myself right beside you
So let me ask
Would you like that?
Would you like that?

And I don’t mind
If you say this love is the last time
So now I’ll ask
Do you like that?
Do you like that?

No!

Something’s getting in the way.
Something’s just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
So tell me how it should be.

Try to find out what makes you tick.
As I lie down
Sore and sick.
Do you like that?
Do you like that?

There’s a fine line between love and hate.
And I don’t mind.
Just let me say that
I like that
I like that

Something’s getting in the way.
Something’s just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
As I burn another page,
As I look the other way.
I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
So tell me how it should be.

Desperate, I will crawl
Waiting for so long
No love, there is no love.
Die for anyone
What have I become?

Something’s getting in the way.
Something’s just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
As I burn another page,
As I look the other way.
I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane.

Song Lyric Sunday – Ashes of Eden by Breaking Benjamin

Before I get into my own pick for this week, I wanted to share a song that I found while trying to choose which song I was going to post this week.  However, I didn’t want to use it as my pick because it is all instrumental and this is all about lyrics.  I’m a huge fan of Game of Thrones and that’s pretty much all I could think of this week, what with winter and the snow and the cold.  Oh, and I decided to actually pick the books up and start reading them.

I decided to check, just on the offhand they had a song out there about winter or the cold, and of course they did.  I absolutely love the music they use in this show, and this one is no exception.  So, I highly suggest you click on the link and listen to the song, Winter Has Come from Season 6.

I’ve been wanting to post this song for a while… Breaking Benjamin is one of my favorite bands and I’ve already posted how much I love their newest album, Dark Before Dawn.  I think it is beautifully done and I highly suggest you check it out.

I decided to go not so literal with my pick (probably because I’ve spoken enough about snow and winter…)  There are other types of cold though… the cold of loneliness and longing for that closeness of another being.  The cold of death.  This particular song makes me cry every time I hear it and the video is a knock-out punch right between the eyes.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.  (Oh, and try to stay warm)

Ashes of Eden by Breaking Benjamin
Written by Benjamin Burnley (Lead Singer)
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Will the faithful be rewarded
When we come to the end
Will I miss the final warning
From the lie that I have lived
Is there anybody calling
I can see the soul within
And I am not worthy
I am not worthy of this

Are you with me after all
Why can’t I hear you
Are you with me through it all
Then why can’t I feel you

Stay with me, don’t let me go
Because there’s nothing left at all
Stay with me, don’t let me go
Until the Ashes of Eden fall

Will the darkness fall upon me
When the air is growing thin
Will the light begin to pull me
To its everlasting will
I can hear the voices haunting
There is nothing left to fear
And I am still calling
I am still calling to you

Are you with me after all
Why can’t I hear you
Are you with me through it all
Then why can’t I feel you

Stay with me, don’t let me go
Because there’s nothing left at all
Stay with me, don’t let me go
Until the Ashes of Eden fall

Don’t let go

Why can’t I hear you
Stay with me, don’t let me go
Because there’s nothing left at all
Stay with me, don’t let me go
Until the Ashes of Eden fall
Heaven above me, take my hand (Stay with me, don’t let me go)
Shine until there’s nothing left but you
Heaven above me, take my hand (Stay with me, don’t let me go)
Shine until there’s nothing left but you

Song Lyric Sunday – The Great Divide by Breaking Benjamin

Breaking Benjamin is one of those bands that I have loved for years, but I haven’t listened to them for a while.  Adelle and I used to listen to their album, Phobia, when I took her to school.  We both loved it so much!

Last week, I was looking for something to listen to and thought of Breaking Benjamin. When I pulled them up on Apple Music, I noticed they released a new album last year – Dark Before Dawn.  I’ve honestly listened to nothing else since.  I can’t get enough of the album.  It made it hard to choose which song I was going to feature for Song Lyric Sunday because I love every one of them; but this song just speaks to me.

I realized today that the entire album is really about death.  Not necessarily happy stuff, but the way they put songs together, their lyrics and harmonies always give me chills.  I know they are more grunge/rock and roll than what I normally post, but I think you should give them a try.  You never know… you might just get hooked on them too!

The Great Divide by Breaking Benjamin
Written by Benjamin Burnley (Founder and frontman for the band)
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Carry me all through the night
I am the last light fading
Leave all the lost souls behind
Show me the silence breaking
And when you’re lost and out of time
I will be right here waiting
And when your dreams return to life
I’ll be forever fading
And we’ll fall behind

So I’ll wait for you
As I keep your faith alive
And I’ll pray for you
As we cross the great divide

Bury the wounds deep inside
Rupture the fault line breaking
Dream of the world left behind
Show us we’re worth forsaking
And when the cold begins to rise
Darkness is overtaking
And when the fear is satisfied
I’ll be forever changing
As we all arise

So I’ll wait for you
As I keep your faith alive
And I’ll pray for you
As we cross the great divide
And I’ll break for you
As I open up the sky
And I’ll stay for you
As we cross the great divide

Follow the sunlight down
Cry clear and loud
Heaven won’t help us now
But it’s better this way
Warm light wash me away

So I’ll wait for you
As I keep your faith alive
And I’ll pray for you
As we cross the great divide
And I’ll break for you
As I open up the sky
And I’ll stay for you
As we cross the great divide
