Song Lyric Sunday – Stay by Rihanna (ft. Mikky Ekko)

I’m posting this a day early.  To be honest, I normally do that, but for some reason it still feels a little weird today, probably because I’m not at home and I know that I won’t be able to do a whole lot with my blog tomorrow.  I hope that doesn’t stop you all from taking part and checking out each other’s posts.  I truly love all the great songs that are explored each week.

I have to say that I have always loved this song.  I can’t say I’ve heard many Rihanna songs that weren’t played on the radio, but this one just gets me.  It makes me think of my husband.  We haven’t always had it easy and there were times that I wasn’t sure what tomorrow would bring, but I’m grateful every day that we decided to stay.  He is truly my soulmate, my friend and my home.

I hope you enjoy!

All along it was a fever
A cold sweat hot-headed believer
I threw my hands in the air, said, “Show me something”
He said, “If you dare, come a little closer”
Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now, tell me now, tell me now, tell me now you know
Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay
It’s not much of a life you’re living
It’s not just something you take it’s given
Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now, tell me now, tell me now, tell me now you know
Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay
Ooh, ooh, ooh, the reason I hold on
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ’cause I need this hole gone
Funny you’re the broken one but I’m the only one who needed saving
‘Cause when you never see the light it’s hard to know which one of us is caving
Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay, stay
I want you to stay, hooh

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 4/15/18

I took an impromptu trip to join my hubby in California this weekend.  I ended up taking the day off yesterday and flew out to meet him.  He actually drove down on Tuesday.  It’s going to be a short trip for me, but I’m already happy I decided to come.  We ended up at the beach last night, and just that short walk was enough to make me happy I made the decision to come.

I honestly don’t want to leave tomorrow.  It’s frustrating with most everyone around me speaking a different language, but somehow it hasn’t bothered me as much this time around.  I told my hubby that it’s weird when you find yourself in a different state.  The air feels different somehow.

Anyway, I think that’s enough romanticizing about my trip, but this all does lead us to the theme this week in a round-about sort of way.  So, let’s get our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “stay”.

Just a quick note – I realize I am pretty far behind in listening/reading your posts.  I promise I will get caught up, it’s just not going to happen this weekend.  I’m truly grateful for your participation and that so many of you check out all the posts each week.  It truly makes this thing I started a few years ago even more special than I could have imagined!

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Song Lyric Sunday – Bright Lights by Matchbox Twenty

I mentioned last week that I was surprised I had only posted one song by Matchbox Twenty.  They were the very first alternative band that I fell in love with all on my own.  Most of the music I had listened to previously had been someone else’s passion and I just happened to jump on their ride.  I did fall in love with Country music for a while, but this band is what finally made me leave that world behind.  There’s just something about listening to this band that brings me back to me, if that makes sense.

I first heard them on the radio and then fell into the Alternative music world slowly but surely all on my own.  I think the reason this music feels so much like home is that it kept me going when I wasn’t even sure who I was or where I belonged or even if I belonged.  I guess you could say music kept me more sane than I would have been without it.

Also, I think Rob Thomas is brilliant; his voice and his lyrics.  He’s also not too bad to look at, if I’m being honest.

I do hope you enjoy!

She got out of town
On the railway New York bound
Took all except my name
Another alien on Broadway
There’s some things in this world
You just can’t change
Some things you can’t see
Until it gets too late
And baby, baby, baby
When all your love is gone
Who will save me
From all I’m up against out in this world
And maybe, maybe, maybe
You’ll find something
That’s enough to keep you
But if the bright lights don’t receive you
You should turn yourself around
And come on home
I got a hole in me now
Yeah, I got a scar I can talk about
She keeps a picture of me
In her apartment in the city
Some things in this world
Man, they don’t make sense
Some things you don’t need
Until they leave you
And they’re things that you miss, you say
Baby, baby, baby
When all your love is gone
Who will save me
From all I’m up against out in this world
And maybe, maybe, maybe
You’ll find something
That’s enough to keep you
But if the bright lights don’t receive you
You should turn yourself around
And come on home
Let that city take you in, come on home
Let that city spit you out, come on home
Let that city take you down, yeah
For God sakes turn around
Baby, baby, baby
When all your love is gone
Who will save me
From all I’m up against in this world
Now well, maybe, maybe, maybe
You’ll find something
That’s enough to keep you
But if the bright lights don’t receive you, well
Turn yourself around, girl
Come on home
Yeah, come on home
Baby, baby, baby, baby
Come on home
Yeah, come on home
Yeah, come on home
Yeah, come on home
Baby, baby, baby, baby
Come on home

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 4/8/18

I’m back in a position where I’m coming up with the theme on the fly on Saturday mornings.  It’s definitely not as nice as it is to come up with them in advance, but the one advantage for me (sorry guys) is that I can pick a theme based on a song I want to post.  That way, I have both the theme and the song all in one!

This week, I’m not even going to do the obligatory search to make sure this theme has songs out there.  I trust that you all know what you’re doing and will find some inspiring music to post no matter what.

So, without further rambling, I’m going to just get right to it.  Make sure to get your thinking caps on, break out your playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “lights”

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Song Lyric Sunday – Nothing Lasts Forever by Maroon 5

I’m taking a drastic turn-about this week from last week’s upbeat song.  I’ve always been a moody person, though, so songs like this one fit me better in some ways.  I’ve been a huge Maroon 5 fan from the very beginning.  I saw them in concert before anyone knew who they were and they had maybe one song on the radio.  They actually opened for Matchbox Twenty (another favorite).  That’s why I was shocked to find that I’ve only posted one song from each band!

I’ve been looking through their libraries the past few weeks, trying to find another song to post.  I’m really happy I came across this one and that it fits the theme this week.  Maroon 5 is growing and changing and I’m not sure I like their new direction, but the jury is still out.  I just listened to a new song and read the lyrics and found myself wondering what happened to the writing and lyrics of their earlier songs.  I find this particular song poignant and sad, but also a good reminder that relationships take work every day, or else you run the risk of growing apart.

I’m happy my hubby and I are getting away tonight, just the two of us, for some much needed relaxation and fun.

I hope you enjoy!

It is so easy to see
Dysfunction between you and me
We must free up these tired souls
Before the sadness kills us both
I tried and tried to let you know
I love you, but I’m letting go
It may not last, but I don’t know
I just don’t know
If you don’t know
Then you can’t care
And you show up
But you’re not there
But I’m waiting
And you want to
Still afraid that I will desert you
Everyday
With every worthless word
We get more far away
The distance between us makes it so hard to stay
But nothing lasts forever; but be honest, babe
It hurts, but it may be the only way
A bed that’s warm with memories
Can heal us temporarily
The misbehaving only makes
The ditch between us so damn deep
Built a wall around my heart
I’ll never let it fall apart
But, strangely, I wish secretly
It would fall down while I’m asleep
If you don’t know
Then you can’t care
And you show up
But you’re not there
But I’m waiting
And you want to
Still afraid that I will desert you, babe
Everyday
With every worthless word
We get more far away
The distance between us makes it so hard to stay
But nothing lasts forever; but be honest, babe
It hurts, but it may be the only way
Though we have not hit the ground
It doesn’t mean we’re not still falling, oh
I want so bad to pick you up
But you’re still too reluctant to accept my help
What a shame; I hope you find somewhere to place the blame
But until then the fact remains…
Everyday
With every worthless word
We get more far away
The distance between us makes it so hard to stay
But nothing lasts forever; but be honest, babe
It hurts, but it may be the only way
Everyday
With every worthless word
We get more far away
The distance between us makes it so hard to stay
But nothing lasts forever; but be honest, babe
It hurts, but it may be the only way

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 4/1/18

I know I’m constantly commenting about how time flies, but honestly, it’s crazy!  April?  It was so weird to type that into the subject line!  This year has shaped up to be crazy-busy and I don’t think it is going to let up anytime soon, what with three graduations coming up in May!

As you know, I’ve been working a lot lately and when you end up staying late at work or working weekends, all the days sort of get mixed up into a crazy blur and it’s hard to keep track of which day you’re on.  On Tuesday, I stayed at work until 9:30 at night and went in late on Wednesday, which was a huge mistake!  I was all messed up and never got into a groove on Wednesday.  I’m happy I was able to sleep in a little bit, but it didn’t really end up being worth it.

Time is a strange and crazy thing.  I understand why we track it and organize it, but it does make one wonder what would happen if we didn’t.  Food for thought, and maybe it will help you with your selections this week.

Since we’ve already done the theme of time, I’ve decided I’m going to start breaking it down and exploring different aspects.  So, let’s get our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “days”.  You can also choose days of the week if you don’t want to use the word “day”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

SoCS – Messy Buns

I tried to talk myself out of writing about the first thing that came to mind, but then I decided it just wasn’t worth it. I was thinking it wouldn’t make for very interesting reading, but who knows?  Maybe the subject could use a bit more talking about.  Although, that makes it seem like it’s somehow important, and it just isn’t.

As many of you who have been with me almost from the beginning now, I shaved my head once upon a time to support my sister who was going through breast cancer.  It was scary and wonderful and all sorts of things all wrapped on in a package that left me without hair for a few months and lots of months with some pretty awful hairstyles while I grew it back in.  As drastic as shaving my head was, it wasn’t the first time in my life that I whacked my hair off.  In high school, I chopped it all off because I fell in love with Demi Moore’s hair in the movie Ghost, and I rocked that style for quite a while.

I would say my life has been pretty evenly spent in long hair and short hair.  It’s pretty funny to me, though, that when it is long, most of the time it is up in a bun or a pony tail or somehow not just hanging all over the place.  It can be rather annoying, and for people with thick hair like me, it can be heavy!

I sort of miss throwing my hair up in a messy bun.  I’ve been thinking lately that maybe I’ll grow it out again.  I’ve started on this path many times since I shaved it.  My profile picture on my blog is probably the longest I’ve let it grow since then and it just didn’t last very long.  Inevitably, I get to a point where I hate it and I chop it all off again.  One thing I am for sure going to keep doing is the under-shave.  I just have too much hair to let it all grow out.  It does make me wonder how a messy bun will look, though, with some of my head shaved.  At this point, I don’t really think I have a choice.

I like that some sort of shaved head is starting to become more mainstream.  I think we all need to realize that as much as we think our hair defines us, it really doesn’t.  It’s not like a haircut is permanent.  Hair grows back!  So, if you’re thinking about doing something crazy for summer, I’d say jump right in.  It’s all sorts of fun and crazy in here!

Stream of Consciousness Saturday  is hosted by Linda G Hill. Today’s prompt is “bun.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!
