Song Lyric Sunday – Stupid Boy by Keith Urban

I almost missed SLS again! Sheesh, I’m struggling lately! At least I made it one time, I suppose. The crazy thing is that I thought of this song right away when I posted the them yesterday, but I didn’t take the time to create the post. I suppose that’ll teach me to get it done all at once.

I always seem to caveat Country music. As I’ve said many times, I’m not a huge fan, but I do have some songs that I still love from back when I listened to it. Keith Urban is pretty hit and miss for me, but I do love this song.

I hope you’ve all had a great Sunday!

I also hope you enjoy!

Well she was precious, like a flower
She grew wild, wild but innocent
A perfect prayer in a desperate hour
She was everything beautiful and different
Stupid boy, you can’t fence that in
Stupid boy, it’s like holdin’ back the wind
She laid her heart and soul right in your hands
And you stole her every dream, and you crushed her plans
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can’t
Stupid boy
Stupid boy
So, what made you think you could take a life
And just push it, push it around
I guess to build yourself up so high
You had to take her and break her down
Well
She laid her heart and soul right in your hands
And you stole her every dream, and you crushed her plans
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can’t
You stupid boy
You always had to be right
And now you lost the only thing that ever made you feel alive, oh ho
Yeah, yeah
She laid her heart and soul right in your hands, yeah
And you stole her every dream and you crushed her plans, yes you did
She never even knew she had a choice
And that’s what happens when the only voice she hears is telling her she can’t
You stupid boy
Oh, I’m the same old, same old stupid boy
It took a while for her to figure out she could run
But when she did, she was long gone, long gone

  1. It’s OK – I’m not completely with the program myself. I’ve felt like total shit lately (more emotionally than physically). No harm, no foul I promise.

Anyway, back to this song. Is it bad to say it makes me feel a bit guilty? Not because I’ve ever treated any of my partners badly, but because I feel like my lack of desire for having kids made my most recent ex feel the way that’s described in the lyrics. I ultimately couldn’t handle the baby fever and parted ways with her. I would have crushed her dreams had we continued on.

    Meh, maybe I shouldn’t feel bad? I don’t know.

    • I think you need to do what’s right for you. I think it’s better for you both that you walked away before kids happened. I don’t think you should feel guilty about doing what’s right for your own happiness. Just my two cents, anyway.

  2. I don’t remember every hearing any of his songs, and even though this one has a nice tune, and his voice is really good, I don’t like the lyrics at all. Too sad for the woman in the story, and I’m glad she got away.
