Song Lyric Sunday – Waste by Seether

I know what you’re thinking. This is a pretty desolate song to post on my birthday, and I suppose it is, but I had a plan and I don’t really have time to think of another one. My hubby took me to the mountains for my birthday weekend, so I’m trying to set up all my posts while he’s sleeping so I don’t take away from our fun.

When I first heard this song and read the lyrics, I really gravitated towards the sadness and the despair, but now that I’m in a better place, I can look at this song in a different way. I think we all have times in our lives when we are at the bottom, so to speak, but there is a way to leave that life behind and start a brand new one. I should know; I’ve done it.

Seether is honestly one of my favorite bands and I pretty much love everything they do, so I hope you like this as much as I do, even though it feels like a downer.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Go unnoticed, let the freedom wash away.
Losing focus, the pretense is second nature.
It’s a broken life that I cling too,
Trying to make right.
I feel dismayed, just like you do.
I feel decayed..
So find me a way, to leave this wasted life behind me. (this wasted life)
So find me a way, to leave this wasted life behind me after all.
Yes, I see you surrounded by the hopeless.
When they need you you’re much to good and bloated,
By the hopeless life that you cling too.
Trying to make right.
I feel disdained, just like you do.
I feel decayed..
So find me a way, to leave this wasted life behind me. (this wasted life)
So find me a way, to leave this wasted life behind me after all.
Go away.. Go away..
And just leave me here.. Just leave me here.. Just leave me here..
So find me a way, to leave this wasted life behind me. (this wasted life)
So find me a way, to leave this wasted life behind me. (this wasted life)
This wasted life..
This wasted life..
This wasted life..

  2. It sometimes makes me wonder what they go through to be able to write songs like this and then I hear of the suicides like Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. I just can’t think this dark. Happy Birthday again.

    • I saw them in concert, but I didn’t really like them. I wish they’d worked the crowd better and talked in between songs. Maybe they do that normally and I just caught them on an off day? I still love their music though.

  3. Helen, I follow your blog because I love your honesty. I also love your creativity. And I love music, so this weekly challenge has been so perfect for me.
I had only known a couple of Seether songs and though I liked the sound, I never bothered to look up their lyrics so now I have a sense of what I might have been missing. Thanks you for sharing this.

These lyrics reminded me of the gift in my own Mother’s young suicide. Her choice, and its consequences for the rest of us, flat out eliminated it as an option for me. And my life’s work has been to do everything I could to share that gift with every one of my clients who slid down into that same dark place that took my Mom.

    Thanks again.
