Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 7/22/18

My hubby took us to our favorite Indian restaurant for dinner tonight, which is always a treat. On our way home, he also treated me to yet another Persian saying. I honestly can’t even remember it now, but it did get me to thinking about language. I’m constantly amazed at how different languages are. I’ve always wanted to learn his natural language, but I’ve been too damn lazy to even try. I may just do it, though…

As you know, I don’t just say things in my theme posts without a purpose. Well, usually I don’t. Usually it leads me right into the theme, and this week is no different. So, let’s just get right to it. Let’s put on our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is speak.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Feel free to use the Song Lyric Sunday badge by copying it into your post or add it to your site to show you are participating.

  12. When I first read the theme I instantly thought of a song, but I hadn’t listened to it in years, so I read the lyrics and it fit perfectly with the week I have had. I look forward to SSL every week, and although I don’t always participate, I always listen to all the selections and love the new music I find. Thanks sis for making this a Sunday ritual. Here is “Don’t Speak,” by No Doubt.
Written by Nadir Khayat and Stefani Germanotta from Google

    You and me
    We used to be together
    Everyday together always
    I really feel
That I’m losing my best friend
    I can’t believe
    This could be the end
It looks as though you’re letting go
    And if it’s real
Well I don’t want to know
    Don’t speak
I know just what you’re saying
    So please stop explaining
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts
    Don’t speak
    I know what you’re thinking
    I don’t need your reasons
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts
    Our memories
    Well, they can be inviting
    But some are altogether
    Mighty frightening
As we die, both you and I
With my head in my hands
    I sit and cry
    Don’t speak
I know just what you’re saying
    So please stop explaining
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts (no, no, no)
    Don’t speak
    I know what you’re thinking
    I don’t need your reasons
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts
    It’s all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are
You and me I can see us dying, are we?
    Don’t speak
I know just what you’re saying
    So please stop explaining
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts (no, no, no)
    Don’t speak
    I know what you’re thinking
And I don’t need your reasons
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts!
    I know what you’re saying
    So please stop explaining
    Don’t speak
    Don’t speak
    Don’t speak
Oh I know what you’re thinking
And I don’t need your reasons
    I know you’re good
    I know you’re good
    I know you’re real good
Oh, la la la la la la, la la la la la la
    Don’t, don’t, uh-huh hush, hush darlin’
    Hush, hush darlin’ hush, hush
Don’t tell me tell me ’cause it hurts
Hush, hush darlin’ hush, hush darlin’
Hush, hush don’t tell me tell me ’cause it hurts

  16. I read most of the posts today and a lot of people mentioned having difficulty finding songs that contain speak and in a quick 5 minute search I came up with Speak to Me Pretty Brenda Lee, Speak Low Peggy Lee, How Do You Speak to an Angel Lou Reed and Speak Now Taylor Swift. I am sure that there are hundreds of songs that could be used for this prompt.

  21. Reblogged this on Wonderwall and commented:
The first song that came to my mind was Talk Tonight written by Noel Gallagher and performed by Oasis. I saw Noel on Saturday, the time before that when I saw him I the lyric strawberry 🍓 lemonade dreams really stuck with me.

    Talk Tonight
    Oasis
    Sittin’ on my own
    Chewin’ on a bone
A thousand million miles from home
    When something hit me
    Somewhere right between the eyes
    Sleepin’ on a plane
    You know you can’t complain
You took your last chance once again
    I landed stranded
    Hardly even knew your name
    I want to talk tonight
    Until the mornin’ light
‘Bout how you saved my life
You and me see how we are
You and me see how we are
    All your dreams are made
    Of strawberry lemonade
And you make sure I eat today
    You take me walking
To where you played when you were young
    I’ll never say that
I won’t ever make you cry
And this I’ll say I don’t know why
    I know I’m leavin’
But I’ll be back another day
    I want to talk tonight
    Until the mornin’ light
‘Bout how you saved my life
    (You saved my life)
    I want to talk tonight
    (I want to talk tonight)
‘Bout how you saved my life
    (I want to talk tonight)
‘Bout how you saved my life
    (I want to talk tonight)
‘Bout how you saved my life
    (I want to talk tonight)
‘Bout how you saved my life
(I want to talk tonight) (4x)
    Songwriters: Noel Gallagher

I’m not sharing videos, instead I’m going to share a second set of lyrics. I think both sets of lyrics are like beautiful poetry just on their own.
