Song Lyric Sunday – Fields of Gold by Sting

I’m not sure what made me think of this song, but it ended up being perfect.  I haven’t heard this song in ages, but it got me through a pretty bad breakup a lifetime ago.  I listened to it on repeat, crying my eyes out, thinking things would just never get better.  It’s surprising to me how things can change so drastically, given enough time.

I saw Sting perform recently and I was amazed that he still has it.  He is a brilliant performer and I will always love his voice.

I do hope you enjoy!

ou’ll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley
You’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we walk in fields of gold
So she took her love for to gaze awhile upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me, will you be my love among the fields of barley?
We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we lie in fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so upon the fields of barley.
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly and there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left we’ll walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down among the fields of gold
You’ll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky when we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold, when we walked in fields of gold
Songwriters: Gordon Sumner / Dusan Bogdanovic

  1. Oh I love this song. My best friend and her husband used this as the “processional” for their wedding. They walked a great distance toward each other, barefooted, across a huge “field of gold”, with the Three Sisters mountains as their back drop! Stunning.
If you have not heard Eva Cassidy’s cover of this song, please treat yourself. Actually, ANYTHING Eva Cassidy sings is gold!

These words are the most impactful to me in this song, one of my favourites.

I loved him in The Police and as a solo artist. Hoping I get to see him live.
