Song Lyric Sunday – She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5

Not only did I get Jim Adam’s theme wrong (it was supposed to be simile), if I had it to do all over again, I probably wouldn’t have picked “smile”.  All I can think is that it’s the universe’s way of getting to me.  Perhaps it’s trying to tell me something.  Perhaps I need to smile, but in the past few days, I keep finding reasons not to.

I suppose that’s what led me to pick this particular song.  Maybe someone, somewhere will see something good in me, because I’m for sure not seeing it right now.  “Broken smile” is just about how it feels to be me right now, which reeks of self pity and all those things I fight against, but sometimes it’s good to just say it, you know?  Perhaps if I acknowledge how terrible I’m feeling, it might turn things around.  Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn’t.

So, I’m going to drown myself in music for a while, thanks to my amazing followers.  Thanks for making my Sunday’s so enjoyable, even when I can’t find much joy.  And even though this song talks about the girl with the broken smile, I think there is also hope.

I do hope you enjoy.

Beauty queen of only eighteen she
Had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her, she
Always belonged to someone else
I drove for miles and miles and wound up
At your door
I’ve had you so many times but somehow I want more
I don’t mind spendin’ everyday
Out on your corner in the pourin’ rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
Tap on my window, knock on my door, I
Want to make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get so insecure
It doesn’t matter anymore
It’s not always rainbows and butterflies
It’s compromise that moves us along yeah
My heart is full, and my door’s always open
You can come anytime you want yeah
I don’t mind spendin’ everyday
Out on your corner in the pourin’ rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
I know where you hide alone in your car
Know all of the things that make you who you are
I know that goodbye means nothing at all
Comes back and makes me catch her every time she
Falls
Yeah, tap on my window, knock on my door, I
Want to make you feel beautiful
I don’t mind spendin’ everyday
Out on your corner in the pourin’ rain oh
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
And she will be loved, and she will be loved
Please don’t try so hard to say good-bye
I don’t mind spendin’ everyday, out on your corner in the pourin’ rain
Please don’t try so hard to say good-bye

  1. Writing a pop song is as easy as 1-5-6-4. 😉

My first experience with this song comes from Axis Of Awesome’s “Four Chords” where they take the ever (in)famous 1-5-6-4 chord progression, repeat it over and over again and start interjecting lyrics from various songs that fit the progression. It’s kind of crazy actually.

  2. Nothing wrong with smile as a theme. Life is difficult! It seems like just when we feel like we can’t take anymore, another problem comes along. Rant, vent, cry…do what you need to do. No one can be happy all the time. Music is a fantastic help.

  5. This is a Maroon Five song I wasn’t familiar with. But after listening and reading the lyrics a couple of times I like it! And “simile” would have been way more challenging for me this week than I think I could have managed ;-). Oh, I just thought of one so if you do use it I am ready!

  6. Don’t know you Helen except for the sometimes-miracle of the internet but if I lived down the block from you, I’d kidnap you and take you to the nearest animal shelter that had baby whatevers. Best antidepressant! (In San Diego, we’d go see the Meercats at the Zoo!)
Then we’d go get tea/coffee and something sinful to eat and you’d write one of your SOC thingys and I’d post photographs.

Because it is too religious, I won’t say “this too shall pass” but do hang in there.

With love, from one of your blogging “friends”.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words. Sometimes I have really bad days and yesterday was one of them. I also didn’t really hide it all that well on my blog. But things are better today. ❤️
