Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 4/1/18

I know I’m constantly commenting about how time flies, but honestly, it’s crazy!  April?  It was so weird to type that into the subject line!  This year has shaped up to be crazy-busy and I don’t think it is going to let up anytime soon, what with three graduations coming up in May!

As you know, I’ve been working a lot lately and when you end up staying late at work or working weekends, all the days sort of get mixed up into a crazy blur and it’s hard to keep track of which day you’re on.  On Tuesday, I stayed at work until 9:30 at night and went in late on Wednesday, which was a huge mistake!  I was all messed up and never got into a groove on Wednesday.  I’m happy I was able to sleep in a little bit, but it didn’t really end up being worth it.

Time is a strange and crazy thing.  I understand why we track it and organize it, but it does make one wonder what would happen if we didn’t.  Food for thought, and maybe it will help you with your selections this week.

Since we’ve already done the theme of time, I’ve decided I’m going to start breaking it down and exploring different aspects.  So, let’s get our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “days”.  You can also choose days of the week if you don’t want to use the word “day”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

SoCS – Messy Buns

I tried to talk myself out of writing about the first thing that came to mind, but then I decided it just wasn’t worth it. I was thinking it wouldn’t make for very interesting reading, but who knows?  Maybe the subject could use a bit more talking about.  Although, that makes it seem like it’s somehow important, and it just isn’t.

As many of you who have been with me almost from the beginning now, I shaved my head once upon a time to support my sister who was going through breast cancer.  It was scary and wonderful and all sorts of things all wrapped on in a package that left me without hair for a few months and lots of months with some pretty awful hairstyles while I grew it back in.  As drastic as shaving my head was, it wasn’t the first time in my life that I whacked my hair off.  In high school, I chopped it all off because I fell in love with Demi Moore’s hair in the movie Ghost, and I rocked that style for quite a while.

I would say my life has been pretty evenly spent in long hair and short hair.  It’s pretty funny to me, though, that when it is long, most of the time it is up in a bun or a pony tail or somehow not just hanging all over the place.  It can be rather annoying, and for people with thick hair like me, it can be heavy!

I sort of miss throwing my hair up in a messy bun.  I’ve been thinking lately that maybe I’ll grow it out again.  I’ve started on this path many times since I shaved it.  My profile picture on my blog is probably the longest I’ve let it grow since then and it just didn’t last very long.  Inevitably, I get to a point where I hate it and I chop it all off again.  One thing I am for sure going to keep doing is the under-shave.  I just have too much hair to let it all grow out.  It does make me wonder how a messy bun will look, though, with some of my head shaved.  At this point, I don’t really think I have a choice.

I like that some sort of shaved head is starting to become more mainstream.  I think we all need to realize that as much as we think our hair defines us, it really doesn’t.  It’s not like a haircut is permanent.  Hair grows back!  So, if you’re thinking about doing something crazy for summer, I’d say jump right in.  It’s all sorts of fun and crazy in here!

Stream of Consciousness Saturday  is hosted by Linda G Hill. Today’s prompt is “bun.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Song Lyric Sunday – Suddenly I See by KT Tunstall

I first heard this song during a time in my life when I was unsure of so many things.  I listened to it over and over again.  It didn’t actually help me gain more self-confidence, but it was a great catalyst.

I’ve also been waiting for a chance to post something from KT Tunstall.

I hope you enjoy!

Her face is a map of the world
Is a map of the world
You can see she’s a beautiful girl
She’s a beautiful girl
And everything around her is a silver pool of light
The people who surround her feel the benefit of it
It makes you calm
She holds you captivated in her palm
Suddenly I see (suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
(Suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
I feel like walking the world
Like walking the world
You can hear she’s a beautiful girl
She’s a beautiful girl
She fills up every corner like she’s born in black and white
Makes you feel warmer when you’re trying to remember
What you heard
She likes to leave you hanging on a wire
Suddenly I see (suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
(Suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
And she’s taller than most
And she’s looking at me
I can see her eyes looking from the page of a magazine
Oh, she makes me feel like I could be a tower
A big strong tower, yeah
The power to be
The power to give
The power to see
She got the power to be
The power to give
The power to see, yeah, yeah
(Suddenly I see)
She got the power to be
The power to give
The power to see, yeah, yeah
(Suddenly I see)
She got the power to be
The power to give
The power to see, yeah, yeah
(Suddenly I see)
She got the power to be
The power to give
The power to see, yeah, yeah
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
(Suddenly I see)
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
(Suddenly I see)
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me
(Suddenly I see)
Suddenly I see (Suddenly I see)
Why the hell it means so much to me

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 3/25/18

My sister is staying at my house this weekend, so I would apologize for being slightly late in posting, but I’m enjoying her company so much, I can’t really bring myself to do it.

With that in mind, I really don’t have much time to post this, so I’m going to get right to it.  Luckily, I had some help from Sarah at On The Way to the Barre.  Please give her a huge thanks for coming up with our theme this week and check out her blog!

Now, let’s get our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “seeing”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Song Lyric Sunday – Into the West by Annie Lennox

I don’t even know how I happened onto this song today.  I was looking up different bands, trying to find the word “shadow” in the lyrics of songs.  I don’t know if I glanced at the side bar on YouTube where they have recommended videos and saw Lord of the Rings, but suddenly I realized that the Lord of the Rings soundtracks would definitely have songs with shadows in them.

I was totally right!  I almost went with the song from The Fellowship of the Ring, but then I remembered this one.  It’s from Return of the King and is definitely one of my favorite songs.  My sister and I actually sang this song at my aunt’s funeral.  It was one of those songs that I couldn’t get through without crying, but I sure gave it my best shot.

The song was written by Annie Lennox, Fran Walsh and Howard Shore.  It played at one of the most poignant parts of the movie and it will forever be etched in my memory and heart.

I hope you enjoy (the lyrics are in the video)!

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 3/18/18

This week has been nuts.  I ended up with a huge project at work, so I’m working twelve hour days and weekends.  I’m posting this right before going into the office for probably an eight hour spell on a Saturday.  I love my day job, but sometimes it can be overwhelming.  One thing that helps with the stress and keeps me going is music.  I love music and I love sharing it with you guys.

It’s pretty bleak in my neck of the woods today.  Winter is on us in full force, even though everyone around me seems to think we should be having Spring.  The really dumb thing is that in between snow days, we have sixty degree days.  It makes for some pretty schizophrenic weather.  Not that the theme has anything much to do with today’s theme.  It’s more just the way it feels.

So, with that slightly macabre introduction, let’s get our thinking caps on, break out our playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “shadow”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Song Lyric Sunday – Live Forever by Oasis

This one might be a slight stretch on the theme this week, but I just had to post an Oasis song.  My manager is a huge follower of Oasis, and he just went to see Noel Gallagher live in Las Vegas this weekend.  It’s so amazing when you get to see your favorite band or singer live.  Unfortunately, the group is no longer together, but their music lives on!

I haven’t followed Oasis like I have other bands, but I’ve always loved their music when I’ve heard it.  When I first started checking them out (because my manager doesn’t shut up about the Gallagher brothers), I realized that their music has been featured in movies and television shows quite a bit.  So, I was pretty familiar with a few of their songs, including this one.

To me, this song speaks of unity – “I think you’re the same as me”.  I realize we are all different in so many ways, but we are also the same.  We are all humans living on this planet, trying to find happiness.  The more we can realize those similarities and come together to make changes, the better off we will be.  Let’s “live forever” together!

Also, I found this really cool video with Liam Gallagher performing the song with Coldplay in Manchester.  I decided to choose that one instead of the official Oasis video, because I just love it when singers/bands unite to perform great music!

I hope you enjoy!

Maybe I don’t really wanna know
How your garden grows cos I just want to fly
Lately, did you ever feel the pain?
In the morning rain as it soaks you to the bone
Maybe I just want to fly I want to live I don’t want to die
Maybe I just want to breathe maybe I just don’t believe
Maybe you’re the same as me we see things they’ll never see you and I
were gonna live forever
I said maybe I don’t really wanna know
How your garden grows cos I just want to fly
Lately, did you ever feel the pain?
In the morning rain as it soaks you to the bone
Maybe I will never be all the things that I want to be
But now is not the time to cry now’s the time to find out why
I think you’re the same as me we see things they’ll never see you and I
We’re gonna live forever
Maybe I don’t really wanna know
How your garden grows cos I just want to fly
Lately, did you ever feel the pain?
In the morning rain as it soaks you to the bone
Maybe I just want to fly I want to live I don’t want to die
Maybe I just want to breathe maybe I just don’t believe
Maybe you’re the same as me we see things they’ll never see you and I
You and I are gonna live forever
We’re gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
