It seems the whole household has been sick for way too long. I finally got it again and thought I was getting better, but then today, I feel like I’m starting all over again. Being sick is the worst! At least I have my weekly blog prompt to keep me coming back; otherwise, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here typing.
Times have changed a lot. I remember when I was a child, we used to have pen pals. We’d send letters to people and hope to get one back. It was so much fun to get a letter in the mail. It almost compares to that sound you used to hear when you got an email. It’s crazy that even emails are starting to become a thing of the past. Now you have instant access to your loved ones, so there’s no real waiting. I enjoy the way things are now, but I also enjoy the nostalgia of the past.
This, of course, brings us to our theme this week. So, get your thinking caps on, break out your playlists and let’s get to work! Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “letters”.
As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt. We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!
I’m teaming up with Simply Marquessa and her LyricalFictionFriday theme was based on today’s SLS theme. Her posts go up on Thursday, so please check out her blog to delve into the world of music and fiction.
If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions. Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.
Here are the “rules”:
- Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
- Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
- Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
- Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
- Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
- Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process
Feel free to use the Song Lyric Sunday badge by copying it into your post or add it to your site to show you are participating.

Like Helen mentions in tonight’s Song Lyric Sunday Reveal, I too miss the days of writing, sending and receiving letters in the mail. Better days, simpler times…This week’s Song Lyric Sunday Theme is “Letters” so let’s get to it!

Is it Sunday already? I’ve just posted a new Bowie cover I love on my blog but as soon as I’ve seen the theme I know the song! I hope you and everyone like really long songs with just acoustic guitar?

Having been sick most of this week myself, I decided to have fun this week with a cheeky song I first heard on a Dr. Demento album. I remember going to camp as a kid and I love the over exaggeration that this kid uses to describe how his parents should come and get him, and then how quickly things turn about and he tells them to “kindly disregard this letter.” I hope you enjoy Allan Sherman’s “Heelo Muddah, Heelo Faddh”
written by Allan Sherman and Lou Busch from google
Hello Muddah, hello Faddah
Here I am at Camp Grenada
Camp is very entertaining
And they say we’ll have some fun if it stops raining
I went hiking with Joe Spivey
He developed poison ivy
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got Ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner
All the counsellors hate the waiters
And the lake has alligators
And the head coach wants no sissies
So he reads to us from something called Ulysses
Now I don’t want this should scare ya’
But my bunkmate has Malaria
You remember Jeffery Hardy
They’re about to organize a searching party
Take me home, oh Muddah, Faddah
Take me home, I hate Grenada
Don’t leave me out in the forest where
I might get eaten by a bear
Take me home, I promise I will
Not make noise, or mess the house with
Other boys, oh please don’t make me stay
I’ve been here one whole day
Dearest Fadduh, Darling Muddah
How’s my precious little bruddah
Let me come home if you miss me
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me
Wait a minute, it’s stopped hailing
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing
Playing baseball, gee that’s bettah
Muddah, Faddah kindly disregard this letter

This is such a fun song! We used to go around singing it all the time, even though we never did the camp thing. 🙂

“The Letter” by the Boxtops was one of my favorites way back then. This video of them lip-syncing (and fake playing) is hysterical.
I love this Joe Cocker version and wish I could find a video of him singing it (not just the lyrics.)

And Helen, I named my arts and crafts business, “Vanishing Arts” because I hand-make greeting cards using old card and letters, along with my photos.
You are right. It is so special to get something personal in the mail!!

I hear you. I know I’m younger, however. I miss letters. I have my one pen-pal from Texas and we do messenger. That way, it’s a bit more consistent. I’m due a barrage or email writing but I have some that don’t bother replying so that can always be disheartening……..Cheers,H

I agree; it’s always hard when you don’t get a response. Thanks for stopping by!
