Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 12/3/17

I’ve been gone most of the day today.  I finally got to spend some time with my sisters, drinking and eating seafood over a long, rather delightful lunch.  I forget how nice it is just to spend time with the people you love.

We ended up back at my sister’s house and I got to see my nephew.  He’s almost two but doesn’t really know me yet, so he spends the whole time trying to hide (literally inside his mom).  I, in turn, spend the whole time bugging the shit out of him, because I’m just that kind of an aunt.  I know he’ll warm up to me at some point, at least, that’s the goal.

It makes me think about how many different strangers kids are introduced to.  I know I’m not technically a stranger, but he doesn’t know me, so to him I am.  It takes a whole lot of gumption for him to get to a point that he smiles and almost hugs me before I leave.

Which, somehow brings us to our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week, which is “courage”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

I’m teaming up with Simply Marquessa  and this week’s SLS theme was inspired by her weekly flash fiction theme: “You gotta get up off that grey line…I’ll guarantee they’ll fall in line…” from the song Dammn Baby by Janet Jackson.

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Feel free to use the Song Lyric Sunday badge by copying it into your post or add it to your site to show you are participating.

  3. A couple of lines (as I recall them) from my distant youth written by Mike Rudd (who also wrote under the name My Crud). Really a song about lack of courage and the resultant romantic failure of which I have abundant personal memories ….
“As she’s walking away another record is playing
And you don’t get to say goodbye
As you push through the crowd the music’s playing so loud
No-one hears you’ve got tears in your eye.”

  15. I don’t know what this song has to do with courage per say, but since I heard it on the Voice I have not been able to get it out of my head so I thought I would share it instead. Ironically, when I think of my own story of what led up to and how I met my husband I realize the courage it took for me to take a chance and dive in. Our relationship has not always been easy, but whose is really, but it has been worth it, and I’m grateful I had the courage to say yes. So here is Brandi Carlile “The Story.”
Written by Phillip John Hanseroth from Google

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true, I was made for you
I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines, and I broke all the rules
But, baby, I broke them all for you
Oh because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
    You do
    I was made for you
    For you
You see the smile that’s on my mouth
It’s hiding the words that don’t come out
And all of my friends who think that I’m blessed
They don’t know my head is a mess
No, they don’t know who I really am
    And they don’t know what
I’ve been through like you do
And I was made for you
And all of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true, I was made for you
It’s true that I was made for you

    • Wow! I honestly had no idea that Brandi Carlile had such a kick-ass voice! I’m totally going to check out more of her stuff.

Also, these lyrics for sure make me think of you and your story. And I think this is a fitting song for the courage theme. Thanks for sharing, Sis! ❤
