Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 11/19/17

I don’t know about you, but it seems that when I turned 40, all sorts of new things started happening with my body that had never happened before and I came to the realization that I was “getting old”.  I know, I know; I’m not that old, and there are many people out there who are way older than me and have so many more health issues than I do, but this year has just been rough.  I’m honestly ready for a change; one that doesn’t include hospitals and doctors.

We are almost to the end of this year and we have one more surgery under our belt (hubby had to go under the knife again, poor guy).  I’m hoping we’ve seen the end of it, but honestly, life does happen and all we can do is roll with it.  At least there is good music to listen to, and friends to share it with.

All of this, of course, leads us to our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week: “growing old”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

I’m teaming up with Simply Marquessa  and this week’s SLS theme was inspired by her weekly flash fiction theme: “…I swear you get better looking with every year…your sexual peak, your full figure physique…”

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Feel free to use the Song Lyric Sunday badge by copying it into your post or add it to your site to show you are participating.

  13. This song doesn’t have much to do with growing old, but it was the first song I thought of. I had just turned forty when my life changed completely, and I realized that “growing old,” was something that I wanted to do. This song just reminds me of the moment I had right before the diagnosis when I thought that I didn’t care what I had to go through, I just wanted to spend more time watching my kids grow up and grow old with my husband. So here is Tim McGraw, “Live Like you were Dying.”
written by Craig Michael Wiseman, James Timothy Nichols, Tim Nichols from AtoZ Lyrics

He said I was in my early 40’s,
With a lot of life before me,
And a moment came that stopped me on a dime.
I spent most of the next days, lookin’ at the x-rays,
Talkin’ ’bout the options and talkin’ ’bout sweet time.
Asked him when it sank in, that this might really be the real end.
How’s it hit ya, when you get that kind of news.
    Man what ya do.
    And he says,
    [Chorus]

    I went sky divin’,
    I went rocky mountain climbin’,
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fumanchu.
    And I loved deeper,
    And I spoke sweeter,
And I gave forgiveness I’ve been denying,
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin’.

He said I was finally the husband,
That most the time I wasn’t.
And I became a friend a friend would like to have.
And all the sudden goin’ fishing,
    Wasn’t such an imposition.
And I went three times that year I lost my dad.
Well I finally read the good book,
And I took a good long hard look at what I’d do
If I could do it all again.
    And then.
    [Chorus]

Like tomorrow was a gift and you’ve got eternity
To think about what you do with it,
What could you do with it, what can
I do with with it, what would I do with it.
    [Chorus]

    Sky divin’,
    I went rocky mountain climbin’,
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fumanchu.
    And I loved deeper,
    And I spoke sweeter,
And I watched an eagle as it was flyin’.
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.

  15. Another surgery. Oh no. Hope things calm down for you both going into 2018.

I honestly don’t know how old I feel, from day to day and year to year, but I had so many surgeries when I was a teenager and so now I feel it has thrown me all off course. Age and health don’t mean what they do to many I guess.

Great prompt. I may flip it around for this one in that case.
