Song Lyric Sunday – Set Fire to the Rain by Adele

I am a HUGE Adele fan and it’s crazy to me that I’ve only shared one of her songs on my blog.  Now that I’m thinking about it, I probably steer away from them because they are so well known.  I really do try to share songs that I think might be new to others out there… That isn’t always possible and sometimes the very first song that I think of is just perfect for me, my blog and the theme, which is true in this case.

This song and the lyrics hit me deep in the gut.  I’ve been in that relationship that was one way while we were dating, but it seemed that the minute I took his last name, everything changed.  Suddenly, there were expectations that I wasn’t aware of, and god forbid I actually find independence and strength and not need him in the way that I used to.  As crazy as it sounds, I could almost feel the change the minute we were married.

It’s one of the reasons I was so afraid to take that step again, but I’ve found that you can’t judge everyone by one bad person.  I’m only happy that I was able to “set fire to the rain” and get the hell out of there (even thought it took me ten years).  I’m also grateful that I’ve found peace, respect and love with someone new. I can honestly say that I’ve never been happier.

I’m sure you’ve all heard the song, but I hope you enjoy it again today.

Happy Sunday!

I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they’re strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet

But there’s a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you’d say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming Out your name,
Your name

When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together nothing gets better

‘Cause there’s a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you’d say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming out your name,
Your name

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
‘Cause I knew that that was
The last time, the last time

Sometimes I wake up by the door,
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we’re already over
I can’t help myself from looking for you

I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming Out your name,
Your name

I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
‘Cause I knew that, that was the last time
The last time

Let it burn
Let it burn
Let it burn

  2. I do love the words to this song and Adele does have a fantastic voice. Yet I have to say in all honesty I don’t like the way she speaks to her audiences, she uses a lot of foul language and seems to talk down to them pretending to be what she is not. I am not a prude by any means but she lets herself down. Sorry not relevant to the prompt. 💜💜💜

  3. I really enjoy hearing Adele’s songs, ever since I first heard of her. My husband, though, cannot stand listening to her songs. I asked why, because she has a wonderful voice. He said it was all just a bunch of EMO type sob stories. So, I said, what about all those old country/western songs you love to hear? That’s all they are …country EMO sob stories about crying in your beer, and cheating lovers. haha! 🙂 Great choice for your prompt, Helen!
