Song Lyric Sunday – When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars

I was a pretty big fan of Bruno Mars when he first came out, but I honestly don’t care much for his most recent stuff.  My kids also enjoyed listening to him and we would jam pretty hard core to his first and second albums.  Jaxon heard his second album before I did and he actually played this song for me because I think he knew I’d like it.

I don’t know what it is about relationships, but it seems like some people don’t realize what they have until it’s gone.  This has actually happened to me at least twice and it’s pretty awkward sitting on the other side of things, listening to an apology but knowing it’s already too late.  If only they’d have realized it before you moved on, right?

I’m thinking the guy singing this just might totally deserve the pain he’s enduring… When I first heard the song, I thought it was beautiful so I’m not sure why I’m being so cynical about it now.  I’m thinking that it shouldn’t be so hard to apologize and admit you’re wrong at the time rather than waiting until it’s too late.

I do love Bruno’s voice, though, so I hope you enjoy!

Same bed but it feels just a little bit bigger now
Our song on the radio but it don’t sound the same
When our friends talk about you, all it does is just tear me down
‘Cause my heart breaks a little when I hear your name

It all just sounds like ooh, ooh ooh hoo hoo
Mm, too young, too dumb to realize
That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party ’cause all you wanted to do was dance

Now my baby’s dancing
But she’s dancing with another man

My pride, my ego, my needs, and my selfish ways
Caused a good strong woman like you to walk out my life
Now I never, never get to clean up the mess I made, oh
And it haunts me every time I close my eyes

It all just sounds like ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
Mm, too young, too dumb to realize
That I should have bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should have gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party ’cause all you wanted to do was dance

Now my baby’s dancing
But she’s dancing with another man

Although it hurts
I’ll be the first to say that I was wrong
Oh, I know I’m probably much too late
To try and apologize for my mistakes
But I just want you to know

I hope he buys you flowers
I hope he holds your hand
Give you all his hours
When he has the chance
Take you to every party
‘Cause I remember how much you loved to dance
Do all the things I should have done
When I was your man
Do all the things I should have done
When I was your man

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 11/12/17

This week, the lyric Simply Marquessa chose was: “God knows I never meant to hurt you…I never meant take it that far…” I do believe that we’ve done similar themes to the one I chose this week, but I believe we usually all have several choices to any one given theme, so I’m sure we can all come up with something.

Sometimes, songs have a way of saying what we just can’t put into words.  I’ve tried to use songs to convey this particular message, but it didn’t work as well as I thought it would.  I’m thinking that when you hurt someone, the best apologies are those given in person where you can look someone in the eyes so they can see your sincerity.  It also works when the apology is forced, because I don’t know about you, but I can always tell when it lacks sincerity.

All that being said, let’s just get right into it.  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “apology/sorry”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Song Lyric Sunday – Set Fire to the Rain by Adele

I am a HUGE Adele fan and it’s crazy to me that I’ve only shared one of her songs on my blog.  Now that I’m thinking about it, I probably steer away from them because they are so well known.  I really do try to share songs that I think might be new to others out there… That isn’t always possible and sometimes the very first song that I think of is just perfect for me, my blog and the theme, which is true in this case.

This song and the lyrics hit me deep in the gut.  I’ve been in that relationship that was one way while we were dating, but it seemed that the minute I took his last name, everything changed.  Suddenly, there were expectations that I wasn’t aware of, and god forbid I actually find independence and strength and not need him in the way that I used to.  As crazy as it sounds, I could almost feel the change the minute we were married.

It’s one of the reasons I was so afraid to take that step again, but I’ve found that you can’t judge everyone by one bad person.  I’m only happy that I was able to “set fire to the rain” and get the hell out of there (even thought it took me ten years).  I’m also grateful that I’ve found peace, respect and love with someone new. I can honestly say that I’ve never been happier.

I’m sure you’ve all heard the song, but I hope you enjoy it again today.

Happy Sunday!

I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they’re strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet

But there’s a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you’d say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming Out your name,
Your name

When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together nothing gets better

‘Cause there’s a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you’d say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming out your name,
Your name

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
‘Cause I knew that that was
The last time, the last time

Sometimes I wake up by the door,
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we’re already over
I can’t help myself from looking for you

I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming Out your name,
Your name

I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
‘Cause I knew that, that was the last time
The last time

Let it burn
Let it burn
Let it burn

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 11/5/17

This week, the lyric Simply Marquessa chose was: “With the touch of your hand, you start a fire burning…” I have to say that when I read the theme I picked for this week, I got really excited.

It’s funny to me that we’ve been doing this for a few years now and I honestly haven’t run out of theme ideas.  Some have been really similar, but they have all been unique in their own way.  The other amazing thing is that there is so much great music out there to share.  I want to thank all those who participate and share amazing music each week.  Doing this wouldn’t be quite as much fun without your influence and support.  When I first started doing this, it was almost like a slow sizzle, but now there is a great big bonfire roaring each week and I’m truly grateful for the warmth and friendship it provides.

Did you see what I did there?  I started talking about the theme and you probably didn’t even know it! (Who am I kidding? You are all really smart people and I’m sure the wheels are already turning…)  So, to get right into it, our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “fire”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!
