Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 10/15/17

This week, the lyric Simply Marquessa chose was: “Shut up and put your money where your mouth is…” Sometimes, picking a theme from a lyric is rather difficult and I’m not sure how well the theme for this week will work as far as song choices, but I have faith in you guys!

I’m not the kind of person that walks around telling people how great I am at any particular thing; in fact, I know I downplay a lot of my strengths. I’m not sure if that’s a lack of self-confidence or that I honestly have no idea where the line is when it comes to “selling” yourself. I do believe there is a line, but we all know people who are far too full of themselves and they walk around making sure everyone knows it. I find them rather annoying. Don’t you?

I think the choices are going to be interesting this week, to say the least, because our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is all about “bragging”.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at helenvahdati@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

#MarquessaChallenge – The Runaway

Rodney walked under the overpass and was immediately struck by the smell; too many unwashed bodies too close together. The slight chill that had formed once the sun set wasn’t helping either, but he knew he had to keep going. He’d finally found someone who recognized Jamie’s picture and they had directed him here. He couldn’t help feeling that he’d finally found her, but he’d felt that way before so it was hard to really know.

He walked past a barrel spurting flames near the outstretched hands of four people covered in layers of clothing. He glanced from side to side at the bodies lying on each side of the small walkway, some of them huddling in threadbare blankets and some taking cover under cardboard boxes.

He was almost near the back when he finally spotted her. Could it be? He hunched down in front of her, almost daring to hope.

“Jamie, is that you?”

She was staring off into space, but at the sound of his voice her eyes shifted slightly and met his.

“Jamie! Oh my God. I can’t believe it!”

He grabbed her limp body and hugged her as hard as he dared. Her hair was a tangled mop surrounding a face that looked like it hadn’t been washed in days. Her cheek bones were more prominent than they used to be and her eyes looked sunken and hollow. There wasn’t much left of the girl who’d run away almost a year ago.

“Rodney?” He watched as tears came to her eyes, but instead of sinking into his embrace, she pulled back. “Why are you here?  Go away.”

“Jamie, I’ve come to take you home.”

“I can’t. Please…” She covered her face with her hands.

Rodney gently pulled her hands away from her face and looked deep into her eyes. “I love you, Sis. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been or what’s happened. Take it from your older brother; home is always a good idea.”

“Home.” She made the word sound foreign, almost as if she’d forgotten. “I don’t think I can face them, Rod.”

“I’m here now. We’ll do it together.”

He helped her to her feet, but she was so weak, she immediately started to collapse. In one quick motion, he grabbed her legs and picked her up. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she held on tight as he carried her to his car and the promise of home.

#fictionfriday is brought to us by Simply Marquessa. The lyric prompt she chose was: “I’ve been all around the world and as a matter of fact, there’s only one place left I wanna go…”

Song Lyric Sunday – That’s Why God Made Mexico by Tim McGraw

As you all know, I’m not much of a country music fan anymore, but there was a time when it was the only thing I listened to.  I thought of a few different songs for the theme this week, but when I remembered this song, it just fit so perfectly, I had to post it.  After listening to it again today, I still love it.  There’s just something so free and easy about it.

I’ve never been to Mexico, but it is one of the places that I’d like to go, even if it isn’t on the top of my list.  I think one of the things that always struck me about this song is the idea of just picking up and leaving.  I think we all have moments when life just becomes too much and we have to just get away; maybe not forever, and hopefully with someone you love.  I’m realizing that I need a vacation!  We had some pretty pathetic time off this year, what with the multiple surgeries, so I’m hoping that next year will be more about getting away and doing a little bit of traveling together.

I hope you enjoy the song!

Margie said Roy you ain’t listening to me
And I got a whole lot more to say
Roy just crossed the floor and picked up his car keys
She ain’t seen nor heard from him to this day
And that’s why God made Mexico
A place where we can lay low
Where the Cuervo goes down nice and slow
And the warm winds blow
That’s why God made Mexico
And Betty fixed Joe dinner every night half past six
‘Cause that’s when he’d roll through that door
Sixteen years and not a thank you from his lips
She don’t fix him dinner no more
And that’s why God made Mexico
A place where we can lay low
Where the Cuervo goes down nice and slow
And the warm winds blow
That’s why God made Mexico
Life is sweet in a border town
You learn to let your hair down
And you don’t make trouble
You learn to dance the fandango
You change your name and you change your face
Get used to beans and chile paste
And learn to live and love life in the slow lane
And that’s why God made Mexico
A place where we can lay low
Maybe Monterey or Acapulco
Anywhere the warm winds blow
Don’t you know
That’s why God made Mexico
That’s why God made Mexico

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 10/8/17

Marquessa and I had so much fun in September that we are going to keep this train rolling for the next two months (and maybe longer if she’s up for it).  So, this week, the lyric Simply Marquessa chose was: “I’ve been all around the world and as a matter of fact, there’s only one place left I wanna go…” I would have picked the theme “home”, but we’ve already covered that one, so I had to get creative again with this one.  Well, maybe not creative, but I had to think of something that wasn’t the obvious choice.

I think everyone loves getting away and exploring the world.  I’m sad to say that I haven’t seen much of it, but I’m still hoping to see more of it one day soon.  To be honest, I thought I would have more to say about the theme, but I guess it’s pretty straight forward this week, so I’ll get right to it.

Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “traveling” or “travelling” depending on which one you think is correct.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Song Lyric Sunday – Fight Song by Rachel Platten

I spent most of my life in self-doubt.  I never felt good enough or worthy enough.  Being in abusive relationships obviously didn’t help and there were times when I felt so beaten down that I didn’t feel like I had the strength to go on or to find my way out.  I honestly don’t know how I made it here, but I am so grateful that I survived and have found my way to a point where I feel love all around me, not only from those close to me, but also from within.

I’ve heard this song a few times on the radio and it always gives me chills.  Sometimes fighting is just making it out of bed each day.  Then, if you can do that, the next time, it is something more and more until you finally find yourself alive and free.  There were times I lost hope, but I’m here now.  I finally took back my life.

I hope you enjoy the song and the video.  Always remember that you are beautiful just the way you are and you are worth it.

Lyrics found at Google Play Music

Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
Losing friends and I’m chasing sleep
Everybody’s worried about me
In too deep
Say I’m in too deep (in too deep)
And it’s been two years I miss my home
But there’s a fire burning in my bones
Still believe
Yeah, I still believe
And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
A lot of fight left in me
Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong (I’ll be strong)
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
Know I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
