I thought of this song right away, but then I started looking for “something better” and to be honest, less obvious. But, nothing spoke to me like this one did, so I decided to go with my first choice.
I also chose to go with the version from “Across the Universe”. It is such a profound version of the song and Carol Woods is simply breathtaking.
I’ve learned throughout my life that you don’t always have to fight back. Even if you think you’re right and the other person is wrong, sometimes walking away and letting it be is the answer. I find myself wondering, is it really worth a fight? I know there’s a great quote floating around out there… would you rather be right or would you rather be happy… and it seems to fit this song and the narrative of today’s climate.
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for peace.
I hope you enjoy this version of the song, especially if you’ve never seen it.
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be
And there will be an answer, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be
Won’t you let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
The Song Lyric Sunday theme for this week was peace. Please feel free to click the link, read the rules and post one of your own.
For me, the Beatles version will always reign supreme (among the countless covers) but this was a really good version and I really enjoyed the movie also.

This was so much more sad than the Beatles version, and I think that it carries a more powerful message.

Oh Helen, you have picked one of my all-time favorite songs from my all-time favorite movie. A brilliant work of art on all levels. Julie Taymor outdid herself with this undersung movie. And I can’t find the original “special features” from the DVD, where they audition Carol Woods, but if you haven’t seen it, here is a portion. Watch the cast, crew and director as they realize they have found their singers for Let it Be!
And one more version, from the Grammys, I think..
I have nothing more to add this week. Thank you so much.

That’s a great version (although difficult for me as a Liverpool girl to admit that anything might top the Beatles, haha!)

Powerful sound and video. It’s cool how you can take the same song lyrics and change the mood with how theey are presented. So many possibilities!

Wonderful song, though I’ve only heard the Beatles version. Sorry, I couldn’t watch much of the video, because as a military family (now retired) it hits way too close to home.
