Song Lyric Sunday – Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton

I’ve had my fair share of drinking in my life, but it seems that the older I get, the more it doesn’t give me what it used to.  I enjoy a glass of wine every now and then, but I also have one of those addictive personalities where it’s hard to stop at just one glass or even two; especially when there’s something I don’t want to face or deal with.  It can be an addicting sort of escape from thoughts and life in general.

I think it’s amazing when you can find something or someone in your life that replaces the addictive nature of a substance.  I will always believe that love is the great healer.

Also, I’ve just gotta say that I love Christ Stapleton and the bluesy, rather amazing version of this song.  The first time I heard it, I was spellbound, so I hope you enjoy it if you haven’t heard it before.

Lyrics found at Google Play Music

I used to spend my nights out in a barroom
Liquor was the only love I’ve known
But you rescued me from reachin’ for the bottom
And brought me back from being too far gone

You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You’re as sweet as strawberry wine
You’re as warm as a glass of brandy
And honey, I stay stoned on your love all the time

I’ve looked for love in all the same old places
Found the bottom of a bottle always dry
But when you poured out your heart I didn’t waste it
‘Cause there’s nothing like your love to get me high

You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You’re as sweet as strawberry wine
You’re as warm as a glass of brandy
And honey, I stay stoned on your love all the time

You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You’re as sweet as strawberry wine
You’re as warm as a glass of brandy
And honey, I stay stoned on your love all the time

You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
