Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 4/23/17

I’m really happy this last week is finally over.  It wasn’t the best week I’ve ever had, and I ended it with a stomach bug, which is still making my life miserable.  I’m hoping a little music will help with my suffering. 🙂

I thought a little bit about the theme earlier in the week, but then completely forgot about it until today.  I might have picked something entirely different then, but after the week I’ve had, this one seems fitting.

It’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about this year and I almost used the theme before, but it somehow fits what’s been happening in my life recently – not just physically, but emotionally as well.

So, our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is to post a song about pain. (I know for a fact there is no shortage of songs to choose from, so I hope you enjoy the exploration, despite the somewhat depressing theme.)

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

If you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at redesp75@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Feel free to use the Song Lyric Sunday badge by copying it into your post or add it to your site to show you are participating.

  1. Sorry to hear you’ve had a tough week – here’s hoping it starts getting better as of tomorrow! And I cannot think of a single song to do with pain so I’m going to have to let this one simmer for a few hours until inspiration strikes!

  6. This was a rough one this week, and it seems that a lot of people have had a rough week, myself included, so I chose a song originally by the Police, but I really like Alanis Morissette’s unplugged version. It’s a bit depressing, but it fits my mood at this moment.

There’s a little black spot on the sun today
It’s the same old thing as yesterday
There’s a black hat caught in a high tree top
There’s a flag pole rag and the wind won’t stop

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running ’round my brain.
I guess I’m always hoping that you’ll end this reign,
But it’s my destiny to be the king of pain…

There’s a little black spot on the sun today
    That’s my soul up there.
It’s the same old thing as yesterday
    That’s my soul up there.
There’s a black hat caught in a high tree top
    That’s my soul up there.
There’s a flag pole rag and the wind won’t stop
    That’s my soul up there.

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running ’round my brain.
I guess I’m always hoping that you’ll end this reign,
But it’s my destiny to be the king of pain…

There’s a fossil that’s trapped in a high cliff wall
    That’s my soul up there.
There’s a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall
    That’s my soul up there.
    There’s a blue whale beached by a springtime’s ebb
    That’s my soul up there.
    There’s a butterfly trapped in a spider’s web
    That’s my soul up there.

I’ve stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running ’round my brain.
I guess I’m always hoping that you’ll end this reign,
But it’s my destiny to be the king of pain…

There’s a king on a throne with his eyes torn out
There’s a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt
There’s a rich man sleeping on a golden bed
There’s a skeleton choking on a crust of bread

    King of pain…

    There’s a red fox torn by a huntsman’s pack
    That’s my soul up there.
    There’s a black-winged gull with a broken back
    That’s my soul up there.

There’s a little black spot on the sun today.
It’s the same old thing as yesterday,

I’ve stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running ’round my brain.
I guess I’m always hoping that you’ll end this reign,
But it’s my destiny to be the king of pain.

    King of pain [3x]
I’ll always be king of pain… [4x and fading]

  13. Hi Helen, I usually waste no time jumping on your Sunday bandwagon. But I’ve been busy doing yard work and pool cleaning all day (Talk about Pain!!). But finally got one posted from Stevie Ray Vaughn.

  14. Jeremy by Pearl Jam written by Eddie Vedder
This song came to mind while I have been working with may partner on a school project and seeing the pain I can imagine he goes through.
    Lyrics by azlyrics.com

    At home
    Drawing pictures
    Of mountain tops
    With him on top
    Lemon yellow sun
    Arms raised in a V
And the dead lay in pools of maroon below

    Daddy didn’t give attention
Oh, to the fact that mommy didn’t care
    King Jeremy The Wicked
    Ruled his world

    Jeremy spoke in class today
    Jeremy spoke in class today

    Clearly I remember
    Pickin’ on the boy
    Seemed a harmless little fuck
    But we unleashed a lion
    Gnashed his teeth
And bit the recess lady’s breast

    How could I forget
And he hit me with a surprise left
    My jaw left hurting
    Dropped wide open
    Just like the day
Oh, like the day I heard

    Daddy didn’t give affection, no!
And the boy was something that mommy wouldn’t wear
    King Jeremy The Wicked
    Ruled his world

    Jeremy spoke in class today
    Jeremy spoke in class today
    Jeremy spoke in class today

Try to forget this (try to forget this)
Try to erase this (try to erase this)
    From the blackboard

    Jeremy spoke in class today
    Jeremy spoke in class today
    Jeremy spoke in, spoke in
    Jeremy spoke in, spoke in
    Jeremy spoke in class today

    (spoke in) (spoke in)
    (spoke in) (spoke in)
    (spoke in) (spoke in)
