Song Lyric Sunday – Million Reasons by Lady Gaga

This might seem like a strange choice for those who really know me because I’ve never been a Lady Gaga fan.  However, I’m starting to think that maybe I should have been.  I’ve always said she has an amazing voice, but I was always turned off by the persona she portrayed on stage.  Now I’m thinking that I was just being judgmental and I missed out on a lot of amazing music.

It seems that Adelle has turned into a huge pop music fan.  I think some of that has to do with the shows they put on… she loves picking apart the stage design and trying to recreate how it was done.  We talked after the Super Bowl half-time show this year, and she was in awe and so excited.  She also texted me when Lady Gaga’s new album came out and I ended up listening to most of it and fell in love with it.

Not only is Lady Gaga an amazing singer, I believe her music and lyrics are universal and beautiful.  Pretty much every time I’ve heard this song, I’ve cried.

“Every heartbreak makes it hard to keep the faith” and they also make it so much easier for those doubts and insecurities to creep in.  What makes this one different?  Am I falling for the same type of toxic, abusive relationship as the last one?  It’s almost like when you’re looking for what’s wrong, that’s all you see.

But sometimes, all we need is one reason.  Just one.  Sometimes, that’s all that’s kept my current relationship afloat, but the more we hold on, the stronger we become.  I’m so grateful I chose to stay when it seemed that there was nothing left.  We are stronger today than we ever have been and I can’t imagine my life without him in it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the song as much as I do.

Million Reasons by Lady Gaga
Written by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson and Hillary Lindsey
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

You’re giving me a million reasons to let you go
You’re giving me a million reasons to quit the show
You’re givin’ me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin’ me a million reasons
About a million reasons

If I had a highway, I would run for the hills
If you could find a dry way, I’d forever be still
But you’re giving me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin’ me a million reasons
About a million reasons

I bow down to pray
I try to make the worse seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather
I’ve got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one to stay

Head stuck in a cycle, I look off and I stare
It’s like that I’ve stopped breathing, but completely aware
‘Cause you’ve given me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Giving me a million reasons
About a million reasons

And if you say something that you might even mean
It’s hard to even fathom which parts I should believe
‘Cause you’ve given me a million reasons
Give me a million reasons
Givin’ me a million reasons
About a million reasons

I bow down to pray
I try to make the worse seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather
I’ve got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one to stay

Aye-eee-ayeee-ay-ayyee
Oh, baby I’m bleedin’, bleedin’
Aye-eee-ayeee-ay-ayyee
Can’t you give me what I’m needin’, needin’
Every heartbreak makes it hard to keep the faith
But baby, I just need one good one
Good one, good one, good one, good one, good one

When I bow down to pray
I try to make the worse seem better
Lord, show me the way
To cut through all his worn out leather

I’ve got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one, good one
Tell me that you’ll be the good one, good one
Baby, I just need one good one to stay aye eee ayeee

  1. I’ve always been drawn to Lady Gaga because she just doesn’t give a shit what people think about her and she just does what she does. I do enjoy that she’s her own individual and just does her thing. This song is no exception. It’s unique and catchy as most of her songs are.

    • I agree. That’s probably why I didn’t like her at first. I always resented people who could do that when I always struggled with separating myself from the crowd. Now that I’m better at it, I can really appreciate it in other people.

  2. This one is beautiful. She really is talented, but some of her choices in the past have seemed odd. She is an original, that’s for sure. Sometimes, I’ve found songs of hers that completely blow me away, compared to many of her earlier radio hits that were so poppy. She has a powerful voice and can really play piano. I’ve been listening to this new hit of hers for a few weeks now and I first heard it at the end of last year. I am unable to see her big performance from last week, but I heard it was spectacular too. What a lady she is. Hard to believe we are around the same age. I have a long way to go with learning my instrument. Haha. I will listen to this one again now. Thanks for choosing it. Fits the theme this week perfectly.
