Song Lyric Sunday – Just a Kiss by Lady Antebellum

I had no idea that most of the songs I love aren’t truly “joyful” love songs.  I’ve been thinking about this since I posted the theme last night and I was at a loss.  I was literally going through my library song by song this morning.  When I ran across this song, I was so excited I finally found one!

As many of you know, I used to be a HUGE country music fan.  Now, I can listen to it and I even enjoy some of it, but it isn’t my favorite.  That’s probably why all my favorite country songs are ten years old or more.  This one isn’t quite that old, but it’s not new either.

I just listened to it again and remembered why I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.  First of all, I love this group.  I love their harmonies and their voices.  I also really like their music.

The song makes me think of my first date with my fiance.  I was so scared of screwing things up and I didn’t want to rush things because I know how I am.  When I meet someone I like, I’m all in pretty quickly and it hasn’t always been good for me.  Even knowing that about myself, it still blows me away that we were on our date for six hours just talking and laughing and getting to know each other.  We ended the night with a very long, sweet kiss and it was perfect.  It hasn’t always been easy, but we are just about to celebrate our four year anniversary, and marriage is only a few months away (no firm date yet, lol).

I do hope you enjoy the song as much as I do!

Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

Lyin’ here with you so close to me
It’s hard to fight these feelings when it feels so hard to breathe
Caught up in this moment
Caught up in your smileI’ve never opened up to anyone
So hard to hold back when I’m holding you in my arms
We don’t need to rush this
Let’s just take it slow

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
No I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life
So baby I’m alright, with just a kiss goodnight

I know that if we give this a little time
It’ll only bring us closer to the love we wanna find
It’s never felt so real, no it’s never felt so right

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
No I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life
So baby I’m alright, with just a kiss goodnight

No I don’t want to say goodnight
I know it’s time to leave, but you’ll be in my dreams

Tonight
Tonight
Tonight

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
No I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
Be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life
So baby I’m alright, oh, let’s do this right, with just a kiss goodnight
With a kiss goodnight
Kiss goodnight

  1. This one, though I am not the biggest country music fan, has some painful memories attached to it about my last serious relationship. I still listen to it from time to time, but it makes me sad. I do think it is beautiful though. Happy for you Helen.

  2. I’m trying to figure out if there is a pop version of this song as well – because I know I’ve heard it before.

It is a beautiful choice for today – and I love your description of your “afraid to mess it up” feelings that can go through your head during that first date – or couple of dates – when you know you really want it to work out… So glad that it did for you!

As for the fact that so many slow songs are depressing – yes! I once killed three hours at a wedding having drinks where the group of us tried to figure out what the most inappropriate first song for a wedding could be based on the fact that so many slow songs are so, well, awful, when you listen to the words!
