Song Lyric Sunday – Let It Go

I decided to do things a bit different this time around and every time I post the prompt without having a song in mind, I feel like I go through some of what you all experience each week.  I’ve listened to many songs this morning, but none of them seemed to fit what I was feeling or how I wanted to portray the new beginnings in my life.

I’m not sure what exactly made me think of this one, but I don’t think you can ever go wrong with Disney.  Besides, while I didn’t love everything about Frozen, this was one of my favorite moments in the movie.  I’ve had moments in my life where I shed things that others wanted me to be and embraced the me I knew I was.

I love that this song makes no apologies – “The cold never bothered me anyway”; “No right, no wrong, no rules for me I’m free”.  I love that they allowed the character to do something that I wasn’t expecting at all.  I was expecting her to turn back, to follow her sister – to do what we all have been taught is the “right” thing.  But I’ve learned in my life, that until you take care of yourself and heal yourself, you aren’t any good to anyone else.

So, this is my mantra going into 2017 – let go of the things not meant for me and live!!

I hope you all have an amazing year this year.  Happy New Year!!

Let It Go performed by Idina Menzel in Frozen
Written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation,
And it looks like I’m the queen.

The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried!

Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know!

Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door!

I don’t care
What they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway!

It’s funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all!

It’s time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me I’m free!

Let it go, let it go
I am one with the wind and sky
Let it go, let it go
You’ll never see me cry!

Here I stand
And here I’ll stay
Let the storm rage on!

My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I’m never going back,
The past is in the past!

Let it go, let it go
And I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone!

Here I stand
In the light of day
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway!

  1. Ah, I went with Disney as well. I have never seen Frozen actually. I do love the meaning behind the song and the lyrics to this one though. I need to remind myself a lot to “just let it go” for so many thoughts I have, for so much of life. It is hard sometimes. Other times I stay strong and resolute. I hope we can all just let it go, whatever IT might be, in 2017.

  2. Ah, love Let it Go – great song, and being a mum of 2 daughters the movie always brings a tear to my eye! I’m not going to be able to think of/ post a song in time this week but looking forward to getting back into the swing of things in 2017. Happy New year!

  3. I’ve been watching one of the blogs I follow do this on Sundays. Do you always post the prompt/theme on Saturdays? What a fun idea!

As for Let it Go – I think we’ve finally Let Frozen Go in my house and I’m rather relieved – but I do love the message of the song.
