I love hearing new music that I wasn’t expecting. Whenever you go to a concert, there are always bands or singers who open for the main act. Normally, they aren’t that great, or at least, they haven’t been in my experience. There is only one time that I can think of where I ended up loving the opening act almost as much as I loved the headliner, and that was the Matchbox 20 concert where they were opened by Maroon 5.
I heard Bishop Briggs at the Coldplay concert and I ended up falling in love with her voice, her style and her music. She is still very new; she doesn’t have an album yet, that I can see, only 3 or 4 singles, but I think she is fantastic.
This song reminds me of the abusive relationships I’ve been in. They hold onto you like a river and sweep you along until there is almost nothing left. I know how hard it is to break free, especially after years of being worn down by the turbulent twists and turns, and being smashed against sharp rocks. But it is possible. It takes supreme effort and will, but I think it also helps to have loved ones around you to support and love you. People who show you that you are better than that relationship, even though you’ve learned that you couldn’t possibly deserve anything better.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did when I first heard it.
River by Bishop Briggs
Written by (I can only guess that Bishop Briggs wrote the song, but I couldn’t confirm it. She is, however, listed as a singer/songwriter, so I don’t think it’s a bad guess.)

Like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Shut your mouth and run me like a river
How do you fall in love?
Harder than a bullet could hit ya
How do we fall apart?
Faster than a hair pin trigger
Don’t you say, don’t you say, don’t say
Don’t you say it, one breath and it’ll just break it
So shut your mouth and run me like a river
Shut your mouth
Baby, stand and deliver
Holy hands oh they make me a sinner
Like a river
Like a river
Shut your mouth and run me like a river
Choke this low till the veins start to shiver
One last breath till the tears start to whither
Like a river
Like a river
Shut your mouth and run me like a river
Tales of an endless heart
Cursed is the fool who’s willing
Can’t change the way we are
One kiss away from killing
Don’t you say, don’t you say it
Don’t say, don’t you say it
One breath it’ll just break it
So shut your mouth and run me like a river
Shut your mouth
Baby, stand and deliver
Holy hands oh they make me a sinner
Like a river
Like a river
Shut your mouth and run me like a river
Choke this low till the veins start to shiver
One last breath till the tears start to whither
Like a river
Like a river
Shut your mouth and run me like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Like a river
Shut your mouth and run me like a river
Hey! Ooh oh oh
Hey! Ooh oh oh
Like a river!
Hey! Ooh oh oh
Ooh oh oh
Like a river!
Shut your mouth
Baby, stand and deliver
Holy hands will make me a sinner
Like a river
Like a river
Shut your mouth and run me like a river
Choke this low till the veins start to shiver
One last breath till the tears start to whither
Like a river
Like a river
Shut your mouth and run me like a river

Great song. Sorry my submission will be a day late this week; I’ve been at a tattoo convention all weekend and am getting caught up. Will get around to it though.

OK good to know you accept late submissions. LOL. I’m just kind of out of it. Two hour drive each way, a six hour tattoo session yesterday and other fun so my brain has left the building. I’ll come back to it when I am thinking clearly. 😛

I completely understand. I got a quick tattoo on Friday and I’m still recovering. 6 hours!! Wow! 😉

So much power in her words, in her voice and in the video’s imagery. Thanks for sharing it with us.
