Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 8/21/16

I can’t believe another week has come and gone.  I’ve been so overwhelmed with life lately, that I haven’t had much of a chance to keep up with the blog.  However, I couldn’t miss Song Lyric Sunday!

I’ve been thinking a lot about music lyrics (obviously) and how they can sometimes say exactly what we are thinking but can’t put into words.  I think they also help us feel emotions that sometimes aren’t very pleasant, but are, I believe, necessary for healing.  I’ve debated using this theme, but I think it will be an interesting exploration.

Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song that explores anger.  (I know anger is a secondary emotion, so maybe that isn’t the best word choice, but I think it’s broad enough we should be able to come up with something.)

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Also, if you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at redesp75@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Feel free to use the Song Lyric Sunday badge by copying it into your post or add it to your site to show you are participating.

  8. When I first heard the theme I was at a loss so I took it to my family and had to many ideas, so I have narrowed it down to two, but I couldn’t decide which one to use. When I woke up I decided to go with Iron Maiden’s “Aces High.” Being a World War II historian I just couldn’t help myself. There must be a dozen emotions going through a pilots mind to get him in the air to fire at another plane, add to that defending ones homeland, and anger has to be at the top of the list. This song is about the Battle of Britain written from the perspective of a British RAF pilot fighting the German Luffwaffe, and in the beginning is Winston Churchill’s famous “We Shall fight on the Beaches” speech. On a side note, I discovered what my family listens to in order to calm down from anger, and I found that rather fascinating as well, but those songs do not have lyrics. What a great Theme today, thanks Helen!

Lyrics are from Google Play Music

There goes the siren that warns off the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble we’ve got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.

Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
    Remove all the wheel blocks
    there’s no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before it’s too late

    Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live, Aces high

Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round and come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again

Bandits at 8 o’clock move in behind us
Ten ME-109’s out of the sun
Ascending and turning out spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press my guns.

    Rolling, turning, diving
    Rolling, turning, diving, goin’ again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live, Aces high.
