I had a hard time getting into my daughters music. She would play me things and I would turn up my nose, but then she would keep playing them and before too long I found myself listening to them when she wasn’t in the car. Family Force 5 is one of those bands.
Love Addict is the first song of theirs she ever played for me and I have to tell you… I wasn’t much of a fan. But the more she played it and the more I heard their other songs, the more I grew to like them. It’s a catchy tune and I just can’t get past the lyrics… “I’ve got a fever and the prescription’s love”
We need more love, not just in our personal lives, but in the world today.
I have two stories about this particular band/song, so I hope it doesn’t take too long.
The first is that I used to play this in my office at work. One day, a sales guy walked into my office and told me it was “devil’s music”. I assume he said that because it was loud and scream-y and perhaps not what he’s used to. It made me angry though and I said, “This song is all about love, so why don’t you just leave if you don’t like it.” I very much dislike people who judge music. What the hell is devil’s music anyway? Maybe the devil likes Celine Dion… who knows??
The other story is much happier… 🙂
I bought Adelle tickets to see Family Force 5, but I put some money down and really went extravagant. I bought her VIP tickets to a show they did right before Christmas. Not only did we get pictures with the band and signatures of most of the band members, we ended up in the front row and finally ended up on stage during the show. It was SO much fun. I will always remember the time I spent with my daughter jamming out to some pretty fantastic music.
I’ve sort of stopped listening to this band, but the memories will always be sweet. I hope you enjoy!

Hold up, wait a minute, put a little love in it
Doctor, Doctor, I’ve got an emergency
It seems I’m head over heels, a case of L-O-V-E
It’s like I’m glowing inside
Yeah, a light I can’t hide
And if this feeling is bad then I don’t wanna be right
What I’ve got in my soul gives me the highest delight
Oh yeah it’s better than drugs
In fact it’s sent from above, huh huh
Hold up, wait a minute, put a little love in it
Hey, Can’t kick the habit
Yeah, I got to have it
Yeah, I ‘m what they call a
Love addict, Love addict
Hey, can’t live without it
Yeah, G’on shout about it
Hey, I’m a symptomatic
Love addict, Love addict
Need a refill cause I just can’t get enough
I’ve got a fever, oh yeah, and the prescription’s love
So lay the truth on me
Cause that is all that I need
Hold up, wait a minute, put a little love in it
Hey, Can’t kick the habit
Yeah, I got to have it
Yeah, I ‘m what they call a
Love addict, Love addict
Hey, can’t live without it
Yeah, G’on shout about it
Hey, I’m a symptomatic
Love addict, Love addict
I’m blessed, I must confess
My heart is pounding in my chest
Cause this love’s the best
I’m just a love addict
Coming down with something outrageous
Lookout now cause it so contagious
This feeling’s got me reeling
So amped up that I hit the ceiling
Gotta clear my throat
Huh huh, now I gotta have some more
Hold up, wait a minute, put a little love in it

WHOA!! HELEN!! My WHOLE image of you is BLOWN!! Don’t know why I had Utah Housewife as my picture. So sorry. I mean, housewife is fine, honest. But I’m having to work to make this music fit my picture. (Probably my own too-many Salt Lake City relatives!)
I LOVED this. Your daughter is so lucky!! I will now have to explore their music further!! Thanks.

Well, I’m happy to have blown that image. Haha. I’m a pretty terrible “housewife” to be honest. I love all sorts of music and some of it is pretty hardcore.
My daughter and I had some great times when she was a teenager. So many great concerts. 😉

“I thought you had to play music backwards to hear the devil!,” she :)’d. “Glad you let him have it.”
“I hear the devil also listens to Barry Manilow — Copacabana, you know,” she ;)’d
“You rock! I can’t imagine my mother going with me to any of my teen years concerts!,” she laughed.
“All [we]need is love, love is all [we] need.”

“Mothers and daughters bond differently with each generation, it seems. So special that you and your daughter had that experience. Bonding over music is wonderful,” she replied.

Listening to the song and watching the video sure reminded me of taking my son to a couple of concerts when he was young!

I told you about taking him to the Prince concert before, but I didn’t tell you my other story. There was a point, I think when he was 15, when I held a weekly chanting group. I invited him to come but he wasn’t interested. At the same time he was asking me to go to a heavy metal rock concert with him but I didn’t want to go. One day he showed up unexpectedly at my chanting group. Afterwards, he said “Now I have done what is important to you and I want you to do what is important to me.” What could I say to that. I went to the heavy metal concert!

I have to admit, I was tapping my foot and banging my head (lightly). Their performance was impressive.
I used to drop my son off at concerts — he wasn’t really interested in having me accompany him when he would be meeting his friends. But it was stuff like Cherry Poppin’ Daddies — harking back to MY parents’ music. lol. He got me interested in later bands like My Chemical Romance, Maroon 5, and Blink 182, but he went through a screamer band phase, too. lol

Yeah, my daughter isn’t as much into the screamer bands anymore, but my son just started up. He will probably do more with his friends though. 😊

A little goes a long way for me. Just make sure he protects his eardrums. 🙂

Yeah my Chem sounds mostly like 70s 80s Rock and that’s why I love it. My favorite band
