Song Lyric Sunday – Homegrown by Zac Brown Band

I’m going to go in a slightly different direction this week… I’m feeling the country!  If you didn’t already guess from my music tastes, I pretty much like all kinds of music.  When I was a teenager, I didn’t listen to anything except for country music.  I took some forays into other music here and there, but I always found my way back to it.  It wasn’t until I found alternative music that I realized my music choices had really changed.

For the most part, country is slightly cheesy to me, but every once in a while you can run across some lyrics that are profound as well as a band or singer with some amazing talent.

My kids love Zac Brown Band and I tend to agree with them for the most part.  They really just make me happy and I love their voices and their harmonies.

I wasn’t planning to post this particular song, but one line struck me when I was looking it up.  “It’s the weight that you carry from the things that you want.”  And also, just the amazing reality that being grateful is the happiest place to be.  “I got everything I need and nothing that I don’t.”

I hope you enjoy this week’s Song Lyric Sunday choice.  Feel free read the “rules” below and post some country music of your own, or pick your own song about gratitude and just being happy with what you have.

Homegrown by Zac Brown Band
Written by Zac Brown, Niko Moon and Wyatt Durrette
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

I got a piece of land, out in the countryside
Lay back and smell the sun
Warm up the Georgia pine
Feels so good to be taking it easy
Why would I ever leave?
‘Cause I know

I got some good friends that live down the street
Got a good looking woman with her arms ‘round me
Here in a small town where it feels like home
I got everything I need and nothing that I don’t
Homegrown, Homegrown

We got a fire going down by the riverside
Sip whiskey out the bottle
Livin’ like we’ll never die
Come on and stay a while if you don’t believe me
Why would I ever leave?
‘Cause I know

I got some good friends that live down the street
Got a good looking woman with her arms ‘round me
Here in a small town where it feels like home
I got everything I need and nothing that I don’t
Homegrown, Homegrown

I got some good friends that live down the street
Got a good looking woman with her arms ’round me
Here in a small town where it feels like home
I got everything I need
Homegrown
And nothing that I don’t
Homegrown
Everything I need
Homegrown
And nothing that I don’t
Homegrown

It’s the weight that you carry from the things you think you want
It’s the weight that you carry from the things you think you want
Weight you carry
It’s the weight that you carry from the things you think you want
It’s the weight that you carry from the things you think you want

I got everything I need, nothing that I don’t
Homegrown
Everything I need, nothing that I don’t
Homegrown
Everything I need, nothing that I don’t
Homegrown
Oh, everything I need and nothing that I don’t
Homegrown

  4. Hi Helen, I’m abandoning Song Lyric Sunday for two months for some poetry writing but I promise I’ll be back in June :-). Please bear with me 🙂

      • Oh, that would be brilliant. I’ll post the prompts on “Just Fooling Around with Bee” and my poems on “The Bee Writes…”. Will be strange to write a post for the same day. Since January I blog in advance and it makes me a little confused at times 🙂 I’ll be here to read Song Lyric Sunday though 🙂

      • I pretty much do all my posting on the same day, except for Song Lyric Sunday, so I will have to juggle an extra post, but I’m missing poetry so it will be nice to get my creative juices flowing again.

        Thanks, Bee!! 😊
