Max limps toward me with the stick held tightly in his teeth and a mournful whine echoing from his partially open mouth. “What happened buddy? Did you hit a pothole?”
“Max, how did you get mud all over your face?” Laughing, I take his muzzle in my hands and wipe the mud off with my shirt. As soon as I’m done, he licks my face and takes off again.
Memories wash over me as I stand at the edge of the marsh and let the wind settle the ashes over his final resting place. “I love you, Max.”
Friday Fictioneers is a weekly flash fiction prompt where we are given a photo and asked to write a 100 word story – beginning, middle and end. This one came in at 98 words. I also combined Love Is In Da Blog hosted by Bee at Just Fooling Around with Bee. I didn’t follow the prompt today, but I did write about love. I hope you enjoy!
