Song Lyric Sunday – Last to Know by Three Days Grace

Every time I hear Three Days Grace, it brings back such good memories. Jaxon played them on the radio today while we were driving to an appointment and they just always make me smile. This particular song, maybe not so much, but I just love them.

They are more rock and roll than other songs I’ve posted, but I went with a slower song because Adam Gontier’s voice is beautiful. I love the grit in it. Not all rock singers can sing slower songs, but I think he pulls it off beautifully.

I just looked up the band because I had no idea what the lead singer’s name is, but it looks like their lead singer changed in 2013. I might have to check out their newer stuff, although it makes me sad. I don’t like change, especially in my music. If they change to the point where they are no longer recognizable as the band I fell in love with, then why keep the same name? I don’t know. I suppose they have their reasons.

The last stanza is my favorite. Breakups are hard, but there is a point where you realize you are okay and you will survive and maybe you find that you’re better off.

I hope you enjoy this week’s Song Lyric Sunday pick. Feel free to read the “rules” below and post one of your own.

Last to Know by Three Days Grace
Lyrics found at AZ Lyrics

She just walked away
Why didn’t she tell me?
And where do I go tonight?
This isn’t happening to me
This can’t be happening to me
She didn’t say a word
Just walked away

You were the first to say
That we were not okay
You were the first to lie
When we were not alright
This was my first love
She was the first to go
And when she left me for you
I was the last to know

Why didn’t she tell me
Where to go tonight?
She didn’t say a word
She just walked away

You were the first to say
That we were not okay
You were the first to lie
When we were not alright
This was my first love
She was the first to go
And when she left me for you
I was the last to know

I’ll be the first to say
That now I’m okay
And for the first time
I’ve opened up my eyes
This was my worst love
You’ll be the first to go
And when she leaves you for dead
You’ll be the last to know

  4. Very interesting music and commentary.
I’m finding the same issue with groups — the line up I knew no longer exists. Sometimes there might be two core members (maybe 3 if there is a reunion) but often it is the founder who remains. Perhaps this is why the name doesn’t change? 😉
