SoCS and JustJoJan Day 2 – Life’s Little Pauses

Every once in a while, life forces me to pause and take it all in – not because it’s overwhelming but because it’s so beautiful and happiness feels me to the point that I have no other choice but to pause, breathe and smile.

We had a surprise visit before the end of the year; a surprise because my sister-in-law hadn’t really progressed towards birth much and I was absolutely sure she wouldn’t deliver until closer to her due date in January. When she went in for her weekly check up, they found some complications so they had to start the process. My poor brother and his wife went to the hospital on Wednesday at 8am and they didn’t have my new little nephew until the next day, December 31 at 5:55pm.

Here is my new nephew, Brody – 7 pounds, 12 ounces and 21 inches long. I took this shot while I was holding him and it looks like he can’t quite take it all in.

Baby and Mama are both doing fine.

I remember as a new mom how much time just disappeared as I held my babies in my arms and just stared at them. I could have done the same thing with this little guy but he is a popular little fellow and I haven’t had as much time with him as I would have liked. I’m sure it will happen once they leave the hospital, though.

I feel like December was lost a little bit behind a crochet needle. I was so excited to meet Brody that I made him a blanket and a hat. I can now show everyone because I gave them to his parents. His mom changed the hat she was originally going to have him wear when they left the hospital to this one. I’m one proud Aunt!

I feel like this post isn’t quite as poetic as I wanted it to be. I think the anticipation of the news was almost more than words can express. Or maybe I’m still just not feeling all that great, which is my body telling me to slow the hell down and relax, which is what I’ve been doing today.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday and Just Jot It January are both hosted by Linda G Hill. We were allowed to combine them today with the prompt “pause/paws.” Feel free to click the link and join the fun or read other amazing posts.

  1. I love his expression. He’s right there, taking it in, learning, puzzled…and beautiful! I can just imagine him in that hat – it seems like it would be perfect and so snug!

Being hugely left-handed, I’ve yet to find the person who could help me learn to crochet, so I’m in awe here! =)

Welcome to the big wide world, and the shelter of a loving family, Brody! (Can you tell I get all sappy about babies?!).

    • Oh, I’m the same way. I was far too excited for this little guy.

My Grandmother taught me to crochet but she wanted me to do it her way. I’ve found you have to find what’s comfortable for you. But the left-handed bit is an even bigger struggle.

      Thanks so much, Shan! 🙂
