#frapalymo Day 4 – The Little Nymph

The Little Nymph

Lately, I dreamed
Little wings greeted me
In the kindest manner
Scarcely beautiful transparent doll
Soared up
Quite astounded and petrified
I fancied divine service
Haunted goddesses
Of the little nymph

I cast furtive glances at
Closely entwined branches
Lure me, always calling out
Walking round this shady place
Certain conditions
Led me straight to
Overwhelming astonishment

Skillfully arranged
My curiosity
I plucked up courage
Against powdered locks
To my great horror
I looked prettily enough
In imitation of the dancers
Reflection in the glass
I walked freely
Where the bridge

This beautiful sight
I at length perceived
Charmed me
The variety and accordance of music
Were remarkably striking
This pretty little creature
Remained still fresh
In the world beyond
This Paradise

#frapalymo is hosted by @FrauPaulchen and is translated by Bee on her blog The Bee Writes. For today’s prompt we were given the story A Child’s Tale by J. W. Goethe and we were supposed to create a poem with the following rule – “only words from this text and in the same order as in the text are allowed”.

I had a lot of fun with this one. I probably could have kept going, because I didn’t even make it to the end of the text and it’s one of the longer poems I’ve written, but I finally decided to bring it to an end. I like that it turned out a bit fanciful and dreamlike, just like the original text. I hope you enjoy!
