Monday’s Finish The Story – Prey

I see absolutely everything. I see you in the bushes with your bow and arrow cocked. I hear you laughing with your friends, planning my demise – a trophy on your wall.

When did you change so drastically?

When did you forget?

You used to worship our sacrifice in grateful supplication. You used to understand that I give my life in sacrifice and love for you, but you no longer see the way things are. You no longer see that we all come from the same place, inextricably linked in an ever evolving circle of life.

I can’t claim to know the outcome of this perpetual standoff, but I wait deep in the bushes, heart palpitating in my chest, tension gripping my body. Peace is an elusive thing, but I believe things are as they should be, no matter the outcome.

Monday’s Finish the Story is a unique flash fiction challenge where we provide you with a new photo each week, and the first sentence of a story. Your challenge is to finish the story using 100-150 words, not including the sentence provided. Click on the froggy link to read other stories or upload your own.

This week’s story is coming in at 136 words. I’ve been absent for a few weeks because I let life get in the way, but I’m back now and looking forward to writing stories every Monday.
