#frapalymo – Remembrance

Screams blend with the
Staccato beats of
Killing machines booming
Across smoke-filled valleys

Rivers of dark red blood
Flow in sticky paths
around broken bodies
felled for the mission

For what cause
Can anyone really say
So sure a purpose
Wavers at the sight

The aftermath of war
Even the earth pays tribute
To lives lost
On a deserted battlefield

A fragrant blanket
Of bright red poppies
Spreads across now silent fields
In stoic remembrance

#frapalymo is hosted by @FrauPaulchen and is translated by Bee on her blog The Bee writes. Today’s prompt was “since this morning again i carry poppyred in my look”. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was inspired by the meaning of the red poppy. I read the poem “In Flanders Fields” by Jone McCrae after writing my own. It’s a beautiful poem, one I hadn’t ever read before. If you haven’t read it either, I’ve provided a link.
