Once again, I have my lovely friend, Willow, to thank for turning me onto another book. I actually started reading something else last week, but then she posted a One-Liner Wednesday and before I knew it, I was reading the first chapter and within about ten minutes, I had purchased and downloaded the book.
This book isn’t for the faint of heart and I’m surprised it’s something I’m reading, to be perfectly honest. It is not an easy read and that first chapter just about did me in (just in case you needed a trigger warning before reading a book like this). But I do enjoy the premise of the book and I’m enjoying how the author manages to write in first person with a sort of omniscient view-point. It got me thinking about my own WIP (that isn’t really in progress at all) and how I could maybe change things up to make it even more interesting; or maybe even to get me past this stuck-ness I find myself in.
So, the book is Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and my teaser is from chapter five. I’m reading on iBooks, so I don’t have a page number.
“Of everyone in the family, it was Lindsey who had to deal with what Holly called the Walking Dead Syndrome – when other people see the dead person and don’t see you. When people looked at Lindsey, even my father and mother, they saw me.”
