One-Liner Wednesday – Compassion

“My dear, lack of compassion can be as vulgar as an excess of tears.” – Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham

One of my favorite all-time characters not just from Downton Abbey, but from any TV show or book. I love her and she is played brilliantly by Maggie Smith. I don’t think there’s been an episode where she hasn’t made me laugh my ass off at least once. This one wasn’t necessarily funny, especially taken out of context, but it was the only one I managed to note when I was watching last season.
