Thoughts on a Morning Hike

I went for a hike with my sister and her husband on Saturday.  I love hiking but I tend to forget the beauty when I don’t go very often.  It’s not like I don’t have mountains all around me, but for whatever reason, it is just too difficult to take the time to drive to the location, pack water and snacks and climb.  But, oh, is it worth it!  I plan to do more this year than I have in years past, even if I have to trek out on my own!

I was the first to arrive and I had almost forgotten that I wrote some words down while I was waiting.  They were rather poetic and not too hard to morph into a poem.  What better way to make it through a Monday than some fabulous pictures and some words.  I hope you enjoy!

Update: Why I thought it was Monday when I posted this is a mystery I have yet to solve.  Apparently yesterday is a blur and I just don’t remember it happening.  Anyway, Happy Tuesday! 🙂

Elephant Rock – Our Destination

A view from the trail along the way

Thoughts on a Morning Hike

The sun peeks through the clouds on an upward journey
lighting them with its iridescent rays
Spilling through openings like gel through a sieve
orange, pink, purple and yellow harmoniously entwined
Brilliant colors spread across the sky

Birds chirp in the trees exchanging morning greetings
Back and forth in a delicate trilling melody
dancing harmoniously in the crispy air
The scent of pine, the rush of river water
scrambles down the mountainside
